Also Says "I Lost the Bet" to Wallace About Returning to Football and Owes Him Dinner

Returning Miami Dolphins star Ricky Williams says he owes his teammates an apology for leaving the team last season and also acknowledged that he owes Mike Wallace -- who bet him he would come back -- a dinner. The repentant running back, who lived in a tent community in Australia, studied holistic medicine in California and smoked marijuana during his brief retirement, will be featured in a Wallace report to be broadcast on 60 MINUTES, Sunday, Sept. 18 (7:00-8:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Williams told Wallace in a 60 MINUTES interview broadcast last December that he had no reason to apologize to his teammates for leaving the game in his prime and in the middle of a contract. In the Florida press conference today, he tells Wallace he sees things differently. "I found a reason to apologize. We are all different�If someone sees things differently than I do, I still have to respect them, therefore, if I hurt someone or if they felt what I did upset them, then out of respect for them, I owe them an apology," says Williams.

His new loyalty to his team reflects a motto Dolphin coaches instill in their players, says Williams. "In the team meeting room there are big letters�[they say] 'Get out of yourself, get into the team'" he tells Wallace.

The contented Williams says he's where he should be right now. "I was thinking last night 'Is there anything else I would rather be doing?'" He says he doesn't miss marijuana. Williams tested positive for that drug last year and then left the team rather than face the public humiliation, he told Wallace in the December 60 MINUTES segment.

Wallace bet Williams in that interview that he would return to football. "I lost the bet," says Williams today. Says Wallace, "What's it going to be, lunch or dinner?" The press conference erupted with laughter with Williams's response. "Well, I work, I have a job now, so it will have to be dinner."
