EXTREME MOTHERHOOD ON "20/20," FRIDAY, JANUARY 2 ON ABC

If you think you have heard everything about being a parent, think again. From breastfeeding a child at the age of eight to being a "serial surrogate," from pretending to be a mother of a fake baby to home birth, "20/20" reports on extreme parenting, FRIDAY, JANUARY 2 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. Reports include:

Some mothers have discovered the secret of turning one of the most painful things imaginable childbirth into a pleasurable experience. Juju Chang reports.

At first glance, they look like real babies, wearing beautiful new clothes with all of the accessories and love any baby could want. But there is something odd take a closer look, and one can see that the babies are fakes. It is a bizarre new trend that's increasingly popular. Deborah Roberts reports.

It was a story that stopped people in their tracks: a mother investigated by child welfare officials for breast-feeding her eight-year-old child. Why do women breast feed for so long and how does it affect the rest of the family? Deborah Roberts reports.

Many women say one of the greatest things they can do is give birth. So it is not surprising some women give birth for other couples, sometimes again and again. But do they do it for love or money, or is it an obsession with pregnancy? Juju Chang reports on "serial surrogates," including one woman who has given birth to 12 babies.

American mothers are just catching on to an international trend to take childbirth out of the hospitals and into their own homes with no formal medical assistance. Yet the American Medical Association issued a resolution this year stating that: "the safest setting for labor and delivery is in a hospital." So why are more and more women ignoring the warnings and having their babies at home? Elizabeth Vargas reports.

"20/20" is anchored by Elizabeth Vargas and John Stossel. David Sloan is executive producer.
