The Indiana Pacers Make an Appearance and Donation

"McFarland Family""Extreme Makeover: Home Edition's" yearlong mission to find everyday heroes leads them to Indianapolis, IN, where the deteriorating home of the McFarland Family will be rebuilt in just seven days, on the special two-part season finale, SUNDAY, MAY 17 (7:00-8:00 & 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Inspired by a librarian, Bernard McFarland learned the power of books and the weight of words at an early age. Though raised in an impoverished family, Bernard overcame obstacles with his thirst for knowledge and graduated from college. He then joined the military, and afterwards returned to his hometown with his three sons. In a community where violence was on the rise and kids were dropping out of school, Bernard set out on a mission to change those statistics and redirect the minds of the children in his hometown with "Pack House 2000," a program dedicated to helping exercise the minds and expanding the dreams of these youngsters by forming reading groups and organizing field trips to libraries, museums and cultural events throughout the city -- all despite having few resources.

But while Bernard has led these efforts to help children realize their full potential, the McFarland home has deteriorated into an unsafe dwelling where the three boys share one room. There are holes throughout the ceilings, walls and floors, water damage in the sub-flooring, rusting pipes, corroded wiring and crumbling drywall. Now Ty and the designers will lead the "Home Edition" pack in fulfilling the wish of this inspiring father who has helped so many realize their dreams of a greater education and better life.

In addition, designer Paul DiMeo shoots some hoops with the Indiana Pacers, who also make a special donation for the family.

The design team for this episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" will feature team leader Ty Pennington and designers Paul DiMeo, Michael Moloney, Paige Hemmis and Ed Sanders. The series is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. It's executive-produced by Anthony Dominici. David Goldberg is chairman, Endemol North America. "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is broadcast with Spanish subtitles via secondary closed captioning. This program carries a TV-PG parental guideline.
