LOST CHILD: WHAT HAPPENED TO SIX-YEAR-OLD ETAN PATZ?

A Disappearance 30 Years Ago Became a National Symbol of Lost Innocence and Changed the Way Police Investigate Missing Children Cases, on ABC News' "20/20," Friday, May 29

It's a mystery that began 30 years ago. On May 25, 1979, six-year-old Etan Patz disappeared in the Soho neighborhood of New York City walking to the school bus stop. For the world, Etan's disappearance marked profound changes in how police investigate missing children cases 30 years later and how we protect kids from pedophiles. For the Patz family, it has been three decades of waiting and agonizing investigations, years of wondering what happened to their blond son with the gorgeous smile, and of questioning why the man they say is responsible for his kidnapping has never been held criminally liable.

With interviews from the people who lived and worked the investigation, Jay Schadler's comprehensive report pieces together what may have happened and who may be responsible. Schadler speaks to prison informants who say they have new knowledge of what happened to Etan; the FBI special agent who went face-to-face with the alleged abductor, Jose Ramos; Stuart Grabois -- a dedicated former prosecutor who has tenaciously fought for proving Ramos is Etan's killer; and Etan's parents. The hour also features the only jailhouse interview with Ramos, from 1991.

The report airs on "20/20," FRIDAY, MAY 29 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. "20/20" is anchored by Elizabeth Vargas and John Stossel. David Sloan is executive producer.
