ON "PRIMETIME: WHAT WOULD YOU DO?," FRIDAY, AUGUST 20

What if you noticed a baby left alone in a hot car on a hot summer day or a child who seems lost, alone on a street? And how will people react to a gay couple being overly affectionate in public? Using hidden cameras, "Primetime: What Would You Do?" sets up everyday scenarios and then captures people's reactions. Whether people are compelled to act or mind their own business, John Quiones reports on their split-second - and often surprising - decision-making process on "Primetime: What Would You Do?" airing FRIDAY, AUGUST 20 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (OAD: 3/11/08)

Often people speculate on how they might act in a difficult situation, but this series shows what they actually do in the face of everyday dilemmas that test their character and values. Tuesday's scenarios include:

· BABY LEFT ALONE IN A HOT CAR: Almost 40 children die every year after being left behind in a hot car. Did these kids go unnoticed or did strangers just walk on by? Using a lifelike doll, "What Would You Do?" examines how people passing by would react if they did indeed notice - would they come to the baby's rescue? (OAD: 2/3/09)

· LOST CHILD: You're rushing to work, running an errand or simply out for a stroll when you pass by a little boy all alone, crying. Do you notice or stop to help? And what if the lost child is a girl? Will people try to help a child on the street who appears lost? (OAD: 4/25/08)

· GAY PDA: Who says public display of affection can't spark dinnertime conversation? But what will that conversation be when the couple displaying affection is gay? (OAD: 4/25/08)

· DOG IN HOT CAR: Will people react differently to a dog left alone in a hot car than to a baby? Will they come to a Golden Retriever's rescue or walk on by, even when he barks for help? (OAD: 2/3/09)

· UPDATE: Last year, "What Would You Do" questioned how people would act when a homeless man collapsed on a busy street - would they come to his aid or walk right by him. The scenario struck a cord with viewers as one of the only people who stopped to help was Linda Hamilton, a woman who is herself sometimes homeless on the streets of Newark, NJ. Viewers, touched by her action, contacted ABC News wanting to help her and even started a dedicated Facebook page. Quiones returned to Newark to update viewers on Linda Hamilton. (OAD: 3/24/09)

"What Would You Do?" has won awards from the Chicago International Television Festival, and the Avon Foundation's 2006 Voice of Change award for exposing "injustice and wrongdoing against women and bringing the message of domestic violence to the mainstream." The Columbia Journalism Review has called the program "a Candid Camera of Ethics. David Sloan and Chris Whipple are the executive producers and Danielle Baum is the senior producer of "What Would You Do?"
