'20/20' INVESTIGATES A CHURCH'S MIRACLE CURE, PEOPLE COLLECTING DISABILITY PAYMENTS FOR FAKE INJURIES, AND A WOMAN WHO FAKES DEATH AFTER CLAIMING TO BE A DESCENDANT OF FRENCH NOBILITY

'Shameless' Airs on '20/20' Friday, October 28, on ABC

Friday night "20/20" investigates the church claiming its sacrament - the drinking of a chemical concoction known as MMS - is a miracle cure, workers receiving compensation for fake injuries and a woman who fakes her own death after claiming to be a descendant of French nobility.

The Genesis II Church of Health & Healing claims that their sacrament, Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS), can cure most diseases known to mankind, from breast cancer to autism. But federal prosecutors and medical experts say what they're offering for a "donation" is really a kind of an industrial bleach that doesn't cure anything and can actually make people sick. The investigative team goes undercover to see the "miracle cure" pitch, and ABC News Chief Investigative Correspondent Brian Ross tracks down the church leaders responsible for making those claims. Ross confronts Jim Humble, the church's founder who resides in Mexico beyond the reach of American law, and co-founder Archbishop Mark Grenon who holds church "services" around the world. In addition, the report features interviews with Doug Nash, who believes MMS killed his wife; doctors who discuss the potential health risks, and more.

Then, a common scheme: employees faking injuries to receive disability payments, but what happens when they appear on TV in great physical condition? "20/20" features stories of workers who have been caught and the private eyes who help catch them. Paul Hebert claimed he was unable to work because of an injury to both of his legs, but the court thought otherwise when he appeared on National Geographic's Reality Show "Wicked Tuna." When former New Jersey cop Joseph Derrico appeared on TRU TV Reality Show "Bear Swamp Recovery" in fine physical condition, his disability benefits were halted. And when former firefighter Shane Streater was seen wrestling in an MMA tournament online after claiming a neck injury prevented him from working, he was charged with theft by deception. To learn how other schemers like these are caught, ABC News Correspondent Cecilia Vega scales treacherous embankments with private-eye Bari Kroll and trails suspects with Bob Kiehn, as they show her the tricks of the trade.

Finally, "20/20" uncovers the story of Genevieve de Montremare whose life as a descendant of French nobility seemed like a fairytale. She was regarded as a highly respected geneticist and horse breeder, who threw lavish equestrian events on her expansive horse ranch in California. Her husband announced that she passed away in 2007, but a couple years later, the real story of Genevieve was exposed. She was born Genevieve Sanders, the daughter of a farmer from Lindsay, California, not French nobility, and, most shocking of all, she was still alive. This stunning discovery was made by Brian Gwartz and Cheryl Skigin, the couple who purchased a property from Genevieve's husband after she had supposedly died. ABC News Correspondent Rebecca Jarvis sits down with Gary Hoffman, Genevieve's first husband, who helps explain why she created her French persona. The report also features interviews with Skigin and Gwartz and some friends who thought they knew de Montremare.

"Shameless" airs on ABC News' "20/20," FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28 (10:00-11:00p.m. EDT), on ABC.

"20/20" is anchored by Elizabeth Vargas and David Muir. David Sloan is senior executive producer.
