PROGRESSIVE LEADERS RESIST PRESIDENT TRUMP'S AGENDA ON THE CIRCUS: INSIDE THE BIGGEST STORY ON EARTH SUNDAY, APRIL 23 AT 8 PM ET/PT ON SHOWTIME(R)

NEW YORK, NY - April 21, 2017 -- Donald Trump's presidency has unleashed a wave of protest and activism among progressives and Democratic leaders, and THE CIRCUS: INSIDE THE BIGGEST STORY ON EARTH this week explores how the movement to thwart the new administration has taken shape across America. In this season's sixth episode, "The Resistance," airing Sunday, April 23 at 8 p.m. on SHOWTIME, co-hosts Mark Halperin, John Heilemann and Mark McKinnon speak to some of the most influential anti-Trump voices in politics and popular culture to discover what motivates them, what they hope to accomplish, and what "resistance" means to them.

Featured in the episode are two of Trump's most outspoken critics and liberal icons, Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. Heilemann accompanies Sanders and Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez as they embark on a cross-country tour to cultivate the party's grassroots. Halperin catches up with Warren, who, amid continued speculation that she may challenge Trump in 2020, is in New York City to promote her new book and who shares thoughts on the new burst of energy on the left. The episode also includes McKinnon's sit-down with Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards, whose organization is often a target of conservative vitriol, and Halperin's trip to California to see how that ultra-blue state's two Democratic senators handle raucous town halls filled with progressives demanding nothing short of total opposition to the president and his agenda. In a week that featured a hotly contested special congressional election in the northern suburbs of Atlanta, Heilemann travels to the Georgia capital for a fascinating conversation with hip-hop artist and political activist Killer Mike, then traverses the country to go behind the scenes at Funny or Die headquarters in Los Angeles and speak to its co-founder and renowned Hollywood director and producer Adam McKay.

THE CIRCUS: INSIDE THE BIGGEST STORY ON EARTH is hosted by New York Times bestselling co-authors Mark Halperin and John Heilemann (Game Change and Double Down). THE CIRCUS is produced by Left/Right (a part of Red Arrow Entertainment Group) for SHOWTIME. Mark Halperin, John Heilemann, Mark McKinnon, Banks Tarver and Ken Druckerman serve as executive producers.
