'20/20' FEATURES INTERVIEW WITH MOTHER OF JOHN GIUCA, CONVICTED OF MURDERING COLLEGE STUDENT IN ALLEGED GANG-CRIME, ON HEELS OF OVERTURNED CONVICTION AND NEW CONFESSION

Mother Opens Up About Her Fight to Try to Prove Son's Innocence Including Going Undercover to Secretly Record Juror

'20/20' Airs on Friday, April 6 (10:01 - 11:00 p.m. EDT) on ABC

"20/20" features interview with Doreen Quinn Giuliano, mother of John Giuca

When 19-year-old college student Mark Fisher was murdered in an alleged gang-crime, the public outcry was deafening. John Giuca and Antonio Russo were both convicted and sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for Mark's murder. In February, John's conviction was overturned by an appeals court which said the prosecutor made errors that could have impacted the jury's decision and two weeks ago Antonio confessed to detectives that he shot and killed Mark but did not implicate John. As John remains behind bars, awaiting an appeal by prosecutors of the recent ruling and a possible retrial, ABC News' Juju Chang sits down with Doreen Quinn Giuliano, John's mother, who has worked to try to prove her son's innocence for years. Doreen describes the lengths she went to, to help her son, including going undercover by changing her appearance and renting a basement apartment in order to seduce and expose a juror who she says should never have been on the jury. "20/20" airs on Friday, April 6 (10:01 - 11:00 p.m. EDT) on ABC.

The hour features Doreen's secret recordings of Jason Allo, the juror she befriended. Despite the court finding Allo did nothing wrong and throwing out the recordings, Doreen claims that she caught him saying there are a number of reasons why he should not have been on the jury. "20/20" includes interviews with John from jail; Jason, who denies he told Doreen that he had lied during jury selection; Jay Salpeter, private investigator and retired NYPD detective hired by Doreen to investigate witnesses; Robert Mladinich, former NYPD detective and co-author of "Hooked Up for Murder" about the case; and Robert Casazza, retired Lieutenant Commander, NYPD Homicide Squad who investigated the case. "20/20" also reports on former prosecutor Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi who has been accused in court filings of pressuring witnesses to testify against John.

On Oct. 11, 2003, Mark went out partying with friends on Manhattan's Upper East Side. While out, Mark met John through a mutual connection. As the night progressed, John decided to move the party to his Brooklyn home. The following morning, Mark was found dead - shot five times - just blocks from John's home. John and neighbor Antonio became suspects and were convicted after close friends testified against them in court. Since the initial convictions, three key witnesses have recanted their trial testimony.

"20/20" is anchored by Elizabeth Vargas and David Muir. David Sloan is senior executive producer.
