AMERICAN RUST (USA) - The cable channel has pulled its direct-to-series order from the drama, based on Philipp Meyer's novel about a small Pennsylvania rust belt town, and the rise and fall of a crime-riddled community as seen through the eyes of a sheriff with a history of violence. Said decision was due to a cast contingency attached to the order that couldn't be reached. (THR.com)
ARROW (The CW) - Katrina Law will reprise her role of Nyssa al Ghul later this season, who "comes to Star City to warn of an impending danger that will threaten everything we know and love." (Variety.com)
CHARMED (The CW) - The netlet's revival of the former The WB staple, originally set up last season, has received a pilot order. Jessica O'Toole and Amy Rardin co-wrote the script from a story Jennie Snyder Urman. Said project is billed as a "fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series" centering "on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches. Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch's work is never done." Last year's effort reportedly was "to be set in 1976 and feature a new trio of witches." Ben Silverman and director Brad Silberling will also executive produce for CBS TV Studios. (Deadline.com)
CROWN, THE (Netflix) - Paul Bettany has bowed out of talks to play Prince Philip in the show's third season. (Deadline.com)
DAMNATION (USA) - The cable channel has pulled the plug on the period drama after one season. Last week's finale drew a modest 963,000 viewers (242,000 adults 18-49) in Live+3. The series opened to 1.376 million viewers (543,000 adults 18-49) in Live+3 back in November. (Deadline.com)
DEAD INSIDE (The CW) - Katie Lovejoy's drama has also received a pilot order from the netlet. The project is about an underachieving beat cop who starts seeing the ghost of her hotshot detective big brother, flipping their sibling dynamic on its head and allowing her to truly live her life for the first time, as they work together to help crime victims both living and dead, and figure out the unfinished business keeping his spirit on Earth. Bill Lawrence and Jeff Ingold will also executive produce for Warner Bros. TV. (Deadline.com)
DECEPTION (ABC) - Brett Dalton will drop by the midseason drama as CIA agent Isaac Walker, "who teams with Cameron (Jack Cutmore-Scott) & Co. for a counterintelligence case. Isaac also shares a romantic past with the magician's partner in crime-solving, FBI agent Kay Daniels (Ilfenesh Hadera)." (TVLine.com)
GOTHAM (FOX) - David W. Thompson has been tapped to play Scarecrow when the series returns later this year. He'll take over from Charlie Tahan, who was not available due to his series-regular role on Netflix's "Ozark." (TVLine.com)
GREATEST AMERICAN HERO, THE (ABC) - Rachna Fruchbom's re-imagining of Steven J. Cannell's cult series is heading the pilot at the Alphabet. 20th Century Fox TV and ABC Studios are behind the single-camera comedy with Nahnatchka Khan, Mandy Summers and Tawnia McKiernan likewise executive producing. The studio details the project as follows: "Inspired by the 1980s TV show of the same name, THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO centers around Meera, a 30-year-old woman who loves tequila and karaoke and has spent her life searching and failing to find meaning, much to the chagrin of her traditional Indian-American family. An inexplicable event occurs that will change the course of Meera's life forever: she is entrusted with a super suit to protect the planet. Meera may have finally found purpose, but the world has never been in more unreliable hands."
HANDMAID'S TALE, THE (Hulu) - Cherry Jones has been cast as Holly, "the feminist mother to June/Offred (Elisabeth Moss) who, up until now, has only been mentioned in passing during flashback scenes." She will appear in episode three. (THR.com)
SHE'S GOTTA HAVE IT (Netflix) - Chyna Layne's Shemekka Epps, "a friend of Nola Darling (DeWanda Wise)," has been promoted to series regular for season two. (Deadline.com)
STATION 19 (A.K.A. UNTITLED GREY'S ANATOMY SPIN-OFF) (ABC) - The Alphabet has revealed the spin-off's official moniker "Station 19." The project premieres on Thursday, March 22 with a two-hour launch.
UNTITLED DAMIEN CHAZELLE PROJECT (Apple, New!) - Oscar-winning "La La Land" director Damien Chazelle has received a straight-to-series order for a yet-to-be-revealed drama. Original Headquarters' Jordan Horowitz and Automatik's Fred Berger will also executive produce the project, with Chazelle writing and directing all episodes of the series. (Deadline.com)
