AWAY (Netflix) - Ed Zwick has signed on to direct the first episode and executive produce the upcoming drama, an epic love story and a thrilling tale of survival set against humanity's greatest endeavor - the first human mission to Mars. (Deadline.com)
BETTER THINGS/CONNERS, THE (FX/ABC) - Matthew Broderick will drop by both series. He'll visit the latter's Halloween episode as Peter, "a love interest for Laurie Metcalf's Jackie"; and in the former as a counselor in an unspecified installment. (Deadline.com)
CRIMINAL MINDS (CBS) - Stephen Bishop will recur on the veteran drama as Andrew Mendoza, "an SSA who becomes a love interest for one Special Agent Emily Prentiss (played by Paget Brewster)." (TVLine.com)
CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM (HBO) - Comedian J.B. Smoove has signed a talent holding and development deal with 20th Century Fox Television. There he'll develop new series projects for the studio with an eye to star. (Deadline.com)
DEAD TO ME (Netflix) - Diana Maria Riva will recur on the upcoming comedy as Ana: "Candid and assertive, Ana is a detective with the Laguna P.D., who often butts heads with Jen (Christina Applegate) over the investigation into her husband's death." (Deadline.com)
EMERGENCE (NBC, New!) - "Kevin (Probably) Saves the World" creators Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters are set to re-team with director Paul McGuigan for a new drama which "centers around a sheriff who takes in a young child that she finds near the site of a mysterious accident who has no memory of what has happened. The investigation draws her into a conspiracy larger than she ever imagined, and the child's identity is at the center of it all." The ABC Studios-based hour has a put pilot commitment with Robert Atwood producing. (Deadline.com)
GREENHOUSE ACADEMY (Netflix) - Dana Melanie and Rafael Cebrian are both bound for the show's third season. Melanie will play Emma Geller, taking over from previous cast member Aviv Buchler. Cebrian then will play a new character, Enzo. (Deadline.com)
GROWN-ISH (Freeform) - Executive producer Jenifer Rice-Genzuk Henry has signed an overall deal with ABC Studios, home to the ABC Signature series. (Deadline.com)
JILL AT HER WORST (FOX, New!) - Tim Hobert has sold a single-camera comedy to the network about "devoted mother Jill, who puts her family's needs before her own, making her a flawed, funny mess - as narrated by her husband, who loves her dearly." Warner Bros Television is behind the project. (Deadline.com)
LUCIFER (Netflix) - Vinessa Vidotto has been cast in the revived season as Remiel, "a classic little-sister character who admires her eldest brother, the mighty Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside), but also feels under-appreciated or overshadowed while struggling to match his towering standards." (Deadline.com)
MARVEL'S LUKE CAGE (Netflix) - The streaming service has opted not to move forward with a third season of the series. The news comes despite a writers' room being opened for said run earlier this year. (Deadline.com)
PASSAGE, THE (FOX) - Jennifer Ferrin, James Le Gros, Kecia Lewis and Jason Fuchs have all scored recurring roles on the midseason drama. Ferrin (who starred in the original pilot as Sarah Fisher) will play Elizabeth, "the ailing wife of Henry Ian Cusick's Jonas Lear"; with Le Gros as Horace Guilder, "the calculating deputy director of the Department of Special Weapons"; Lewis as former nun Lacey Antoine, "a blunt, tough, survivalist ex-military badass-turned-hermit with a wry sense of humor"; and Fuchs as Grey, "a mysterious Project Noah employee who has terrible dreams and visions, hinting that he might have a telepathic connection with the virals." Additionally, McKinley Belcher III, "who plays death row inmate/Project Noah test subject Anthony Carter," has been promoted to series regular. (TVLine.com)
RAMY (Hulu) - May Calamawy is set to star opposite Ramy Youssef in the upcoming comedy, about a first generation American Muslim who is on a spiritual journey in his politically-divided New Jersey neighborhood. She'll play Dena, "Ramy's younger sister who struggles to live her life under the reign of an Egyptian Family and all the double standards that come with it. While Dena might have similar issues to Ramy in regards to finding her purpose, relationships and religion, she's never afraid to voice her opinion- especially when it comes to her parents' favoritism towards her brother." SUPERGIRL (The CW) - Azie Tesfai has been tapped to recur as James Olsen's (Mehcad Brooks) sister Kelly, "an intelligent and insightful woman who spent time in the military in order to pay for medical school. She's recently discharged from the military and is currently finishing her training as a psychiatrist. She's got a large heart and cares deeply about others." (Deadline.com)
SURVEILLANCE (CBS) - Oscar-nominee Catalina Sandino Moreno (Maria Full of Grace) has been cast in the Sophia Bush-led drama pilot as Natalie, "who oversees all active operations at the NSA, the first woman to do so - and she's excellent at her job. She is fiercely loyal to Maddy (Bush), her close colleague and longtime friend, and the two are like sisters." (Deadline.com)
TRIBE, THE (FOX, New!) - Monica Macer has set up a potential drama at the network "set inside the New York City field office of the FBI featuring the stories of three female agents as they struggle to balance their professional and personal lives." The project, which has a penalty attached, is inspired by "journalist and author Doug Stanton's interviews of women in law enforcement." Macer and Stanton will executive produce alongside Thruline Entertainment's Ron West and Chris Henze for 20th Century Fox Television. (Deadline.com)
WILL & GRACE (NBC) - Molly Shannon has booked a return trip to the series as Valerie Bassett while Matt Bomer's stay as Will's (Eric McCormack) suitor McCoy Whitman has been extended for three additional episodes. (Deadline.com)
