CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- E! will make its first foray into the DVD realm this fall as the network has partnered with Lions Gate Home Entertainment to release "The Anna Nicole Show: The Complete First Season" on November 4.
The multi-disc set will include additional footage from the series as well as uncensored dialogue. Specific features and specifications will be announced closer to its release date. The set will carry a suggested retail price of $34.99.
The news is just one of several DVD-related moves made in the past week. Here's the latest roundup:
-- Columbia TriStar Home Video is set to follow through with its promise to bring some more of its TV library to DVD as "Soap: The Complete First Season" will be released on September 16. The three-disc set includes all 25 of its first season episodes in full screen and Dolby 2.0 surround. Extras are thin with only brief episode synopses and airdate information included. The MSRP is listed as $29.95. The release marks the first of four promised sets determined by a reader poll on the studio's web site. "Soap," along with "Dilbert," "The Tick" and "NewsRadio" were the top vote recipients of the poll, which included virtually all of Columbia TriStar's TV library.
-- With Sci Fi's "Battlestar Galactica" set to hit the airwaves in December, Universal Studios Home Video is set to release the original on DVD. "Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Epic Series" will reach stores on October 21, just in time for the upcoming mini-series. The six-disc set includes all 24 episodes of the original series, fully remastered in 4:3 full screen and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround (the original mono tracks are also included).
Among the plentiful extras are two "making of" featurettes ("Insight into the Making of Battlestar Galactica," "Creation of Battlestar Galactica: an Interview with creator Glen A. Larson"), deleted scenes, commentary for selected episodes by the cast and crew, a visual effects featurette with John Dykstra, the "Sci-Fi Special: Making of the Show," "Composing the Music: Stu Phillips and Glen A. Larson," production notes, a sneak preview of the new Sci-Fi Channel mini-series and a trailer for the forthcoming video game. Retail is set at $119.95. The studio will also re-issue its single-disc "Battlestar Galactica: The Original Movie" on the same date to tie-in with the promotion.
-- The "original" reality celebrity is set to return this fall as Buena Vista Home Entertainment will release "The Osbournes: The Complete Second Season" on September 30. The two-disc set will again feature a boatload of extras including extra footage and uncensored dialogue. Specific features will be announced closer to its release date. The suggested retail price is $29.95.
