UPN's 'The Parkers' to Wrap Season After 19 Episodes

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- UPN's comedy veteran "The Parkers" may be looking at retirement.
A source at the show's producer, Big Ticket Television, has confirmed that production this season will wrap after 19 episodes. The news brings its series total to 110 episodes, enough to fulfill its syndication sales commitments to BET and local stations across the country.
The studio reportedly isn't interested in producing any additional episodes as with its back-end sales exhausted, there's no incentive to continue production on the series without a substantial license fee increase from UPN.
The show, which stars Mo'Nique and Countess Vaughan, will tape its last episode this season on Friday, January 23. UPN has made no comment about the future of the show beyond its current season.
To date this season, "The Parkers" has averaged 3.84 million viewers, placing it ahead of fellow comedies "The Mullets," "Rock Me Baby" and "One on One" but behind "All of Us," "Half & Half," "Eve" and "Girlfriends."
