'Player' Lands UPN Tuesday Spot, Other News
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- As expected, UPN announced today it plans to launch its new summer reality series "The Player" on Tuesday, August 3 at 9:00/8:00c.

The series joins "Amish in the City," which airs Wednesdays at 8:00/7:00c beginning July 28, as part of the netlet's most aggressive summer schedule to date.

In addition, the network has confirmed "Star Trek: Enterprise" will make its official move to Friday nights starting August 6 with a repeat of the episode "Hatchery." The veteran drama will air at 8:00/7:00c that month as a lead-in to encores of "Amish in the City" at 9:00/8:00c. "Enterprise" will then slide to 9:00/8:00c in the fall for its fourth season debut at a yet-to-be-announced date.

UPN made "The Player" announcement via press release this afternoon:

SET IN THE SEDUCTIVE WORLD OF MIAMI AND SOUTH BEACH, UPN PUTS A DIVERSE GROUP OF SELF-DESCRIBED "PLAYERS" AND THEIR DATING SKILLS TO THE TEST IN THE SEXY, FUNNY AND UNPREDICTABLE NEW REALITY SERIES, "THE PLAYER" TO DEBUT ON TUESDAY, AUG. 3 AT 9:00PM

UPN's new reality series, THE PLAYER, a sexy, funny, one-hour relationship series set in the bling-bling world of mansions, cool cars, and VIP parties follows a stunning Miami model named Dawn, joined by her two girlfriends, for eight weeks, as they pit 13 guys who are self-described "players" against each other in a quest to be the last one standing. The show will premiere Tuesday, Aug. 3 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on UPN.

A cultural cross-section of guys find themselves living together in a palatial mansion in South Florida with Dawn and her two beautiful girlfriends. Each episode, the guys will receive a challenge from the anonymous "Player Operator" (voiced by a mystery guest) which will test their skills in maneuvering the minefields of the dating world and the world of "players." Their ability to carry out these tasks will determine who gets to go on glamorous dates with Dawn.

Throughout the hot spots of South Beach and Miami, these self-proclaimed "masters of the opposite sex" will attempt to win over Dawn, with the approval of her girlfriends, as they are thrust into a variety of scenarios with the possibility of sudden death eliminations. By using all of their best dating tactics and interpersonal skills, they must prove themselves worthy of being selected as Dawn's ultimate player and hopefully not hear her dismiss them with the fateful phrase, "Don't hate the player, hate the game."

The executive producers are Don Weiner ("It's Showtime at the Apollo") and Happy Walters. Teri Kennedy ("Survivor") is co-executive producer. THE PLAYER is produced by Ureal Productions, Inc.
