Adult Swim Gets Heavy with Metalocalypse

New Series from Tommy Blacha and Brendon Small Debuts Aug. 6 at 11:45 p.m. (ET, PT)

For the band Dethklok, the world is full of darkness, pain, destruction and death. Not to mention groupies and ear-shattering heavy metal and piles of cash. Metalocalypse is the new Adult Swim animated series that follows the exploits of Dethklok, the worlds most popular band and most significant cultural force. Created by Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha, Metalocalypse will air Sundays at 11:45 p.m. (ET, PT) beginning Sunday, Aug. 6.

Dethklok is so popular that thousands of fans will travel to a remote area of Scandinavia to hear them perform a single song: a jingle for a coffee company. Theyre so clever (or clever enough to hire good lawyers) that their fans will sign pain waivers in case anything truly horrible happens to them at a show, as invariably occurs. The band members are also incredibly selfish and stupid, and they create a wave of mayhem, death and destruction wherever they go.

Nathan Explosion is the lyricist for the band. Skwisgaar Skwigelf, a Swede, is the worlds fastest guitarist. Toki Wartooth, from Norway, is the worlds second-fastest guitarist. Pickles is the bands drummer and musical genius. And William Murderface is the bass player who is filled with bottomless hate, much of it self-directed.

As stupid and destructive as Dethklok can be, at least they think big. Consider the brief collaboration with the London Philharmonic that ended, accidentally, in the slaughter of the entire orchestra. Or their desire to make the worlds heaviest, most metal album by recording it in a nuclear submarine in the Marianas Trench.

Tommy Blacha and Brendon Small are the co-creators and executive producers of Metalocalypse. Blacha is a veteran comedy writer, having worked on Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Late Night with Conan OBrien and Da Ali G Show, among others. He formerly served as creative director for World Wrestling Entertainment and as a promoter for Mixed Martial Arts Fighting. Brendon Small is the co-creator, music writer and one of the lead voice actors of Metalocalypse. This is the second Adult Swim series for Small; he was the co-creator and co-writer of the Adult Swim series Home Movies, for which he also composed music.

Metalocalypse joins the Adult Swim lineup that already includes top-rated original comedies such as Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Boondocks, Robot Chicken and Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law; acquired series Pee-wees Playhouse, Family Guy, Futurama and American Dad; and action/anim series like InuYasha, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Samurai Champloo. Adult Swim remains the #1 ad-supported basic cable network among young adult viewers, ranking #1 in delivery of its target demos, adults 18-34, adults 18-24, men 18-34 and men 18-24, according to data from Nielsen Media Research.

Adult Swim (AdultSwim.com), launched in 2001, is Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.s network offering original and acquired animated comedy and action series for young adults. Airing overnights six days a week for a total of 45 hours weekly, Adult Swim shares channel space with Cartoon Network, home to the best in original, classic and acquired programming for children and families, and is seen in 89 million U.S. homes.

Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., a Time Warner company, is a major producer of news and entertainment product around the world and the leading provider of programming for the basic cable industry.
