Exclusive: Discovery Books "Anniversary Week" for June 13-19
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- You've heard of Discovery's "Shark Week." Now it's time for "Anniversary Week," as in the 25th anniversary of the channel's launch.

The weeklong celebration, set for June 13-June 19, will feature special episodes of its various franchises - including "Dirty Jobs," "Mythbusters" and "Man vs. Wild" - in honor of Discovery's debut on June 17, 1985.

It all begins on Sunday, June 13 at 9:00/8:00c with the aptly titled one-hour special "25 Years of Discovery," followed by "4D Atlas Hawaii" at 10:00/9:00c. On subsequent nights look for (all at 9:00/8:00c unless specified) "Dirty Jobs: The Dirty Truth" (Monday, June 14), "After the Catch" (Tuesday, June 15 at 10:00/9:00c), "Mythbusters: 25 Best Busted Myths" (Wednesday, June 16), "Scariest Moments at Sea" (Thursday, June 17), "Discovery Saved My Life" (Friday, June 18) and "Man vs. Wild Top 25" (Saturday, June 19).

Also due in June are three new series, "Ultimate Car Build Off," "Heartland Thunder" and "Stranded."

"Build Off," formerly known as "Garage Wars," launches Monday, June 21 at 9:00/8:00c. Lou Santiago and Andrew "ACP" Picard host the series, from A. Smith & Company Productions, which pits various garages from around the country against each other in a tournament-style competition for a $100,000 grand prize. Each week a pair of garages go head-to-head in challenges like turning a minivan into a high performance super car or creating a submersible vehicle, with Santiago, Picard and Chip Foose judging the winner.

That same night sees the bow of "Heartland Thunder" at 10:00/9:00c. Said hour tracks the world of Friday night dirt track racing in Kansas City through the eyes of four drivers: Tim Karrick, Justin Boney, Tom Charles and his son Dan Charles. 3 Ball Productions is behind the project.

And finally, Dave Canterbury and Cody Lundin star in "Stranded," due Friday, June 11 at 10:00/9:00c. The 10-part series features the pair as they are dropped into various scenarios that could happen to anyone, from marooned boaters to lost hikers to stranded mountain climbers, and demonstrate what it takes to stay alive.
