Development Update: Wednesday, June 16
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

THE 30 PERCENT (CMT) - Fred Goss ("Sons & Daughters") and Sarah Rafferty are the first to be cast in the comedy pilot, about "a family that must downsize when the father's pay as a commercial real estate executive is cut by 30%." He'll play the father in question with Rafferty as his doting wife. Peter Knight is behind the project, to be directed by Rob Schiller.

THE CHEFS (Syndication, New!) - Debmar-Mercury and ITV Studios are developing a new syndicated talk show which brings together four leading chefs as they hold a daily roundtable discussion about food-related topics. Casting is underway on the New York-based project, which is expected to begin a multi-week test run during the upcoming broadcast season. No other details were given.

CSI: MIAMI (CBS) - Producers have opted not to pick up co-star Eddie Cibrian's option for the show's upcoming ninth season. Cibrian was brought aboard this past season to fill the void left by the departuring Adam Rodriguez. With Rodriguez subsequently agreeing to return to full-time status, Cibrian's exit doesn't come as much of a surprise.

DEXTER (Showtime) - April Lee Hernandez ("ER") is set to recur on the show's upcoming fifth season. She'll play "a new cop (presumably) working in Miami Metro's homicide department." No other details were given. Hernandez joins recent additions Julia Stiles, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Shawn Hatosy.

JERSEYLICIOUS (Oxygen) - The network has commissioned 10 additional episodes of the series, bringing its sophomore season total to 20. The series, which wrapped its freshman run back in May, is set to return this fall. No exact return date however has been released.

THE MONEY DROP (FOX, New!) - Endemol USA has landed a pilot order from the network for a new game show in which contestants start with one million dollars but then must answer multiple-choice trivia questions by placing the cash on trap doors adorned with the possible answers. Should they be incorrect, their money "drops" and is lost for good while should they be correct, they get to keep the money and continue onto the next question. If they survive the eight rounds, they get to keep the remaining amount. The project is based on the U.K. format "The Million Pound Drop." Production is targeted to begin in August with a host and executive producer yet to be announced.

THE OFFICE (NBC) - Zach Woods has been upped to series regular for the show's seventh season. He'll continue on as Gabe Louis, the soft-spoken Coordinating Director for Emerging Regions for Sabre.

UNTITLED DAVID LITT PROJECT (CMT) - Debra Mooney ("Everwood") is the latest addition to the comedy pilot, about "a man (Tom Arnold) seeking the empty nest and his family, including wife (Liza Snyder) and parents (Ed Asner, Mooney), who is unwilling to let him have it." She'll play the man's mother in the project, which comes from creator David Litt.
