Development Update: Wednesday, April 20
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

MISSING (ABC) - Cliff Curtis ("Trauma") is the latest addition to the upcoming drama, about Becca Winstone (Ashley Judd), a former CIA agent who takes it upon herself to travel to Europe and track down her son who's gone missing during a summer internship. He'll play Dax Miller, the Deputy Director of the CIA's London office. Sean Bean also stars in the ABC Studios-based hour, the pilot of which Steve Shill is directing from a script by Greg Poirier.

NCIS/NCIS: LOS ANGELES (CBS) - Shane Brennan has inked a new three-year, low-eight-figure overall deal with producer CBS Television Studios. The pact covers his duties on both series, of which he serves as an executive producer. He'll also develop new series projects for the studio. Meanwhile, Gary Glasberg has likewise signed a three-year, seven-figure overall deal with CBS Television Studios. He'll take over day-to-day showrunner duties on the parent series, allowing Brennan to focus on "Los Angeles" and his development. "NCIS" was picked up for its ninth season back in February while "Los Angeles" is widely considered a lock to return. The only question mark: the involvement of "NCIS" co-star Cote de Pablo, who is the only cast member still without a deal for next season.

UNTITLED RICKI LAKE PROJECT (Syndication) - Ricki Lake is looking to return to daytime as the former mainstay has inked a development deal with Twentieth Television. "The program will be based in Los Angeles, CA and will present topical conversation reflecting Ricki's own personal journey and recent life experiences," the studio said in a release. "As her fans have grown up with Ricki, a combination of relevant themes personal to the host and her audience including family, marriage, parenting, divorce, weight loss and overall well-being are being explored for the program." The untitled project is being targeted for a possible fall 2012 launch.

A VISIT FROM THE GOON SQUAD (HBO, New!) - Author Jennifer Egan is looking to bring her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel to the small screen. The project revolves around a group of characters in 1970s San Francisco and their interlocking stories through New York City sometime after 2020. Groundswell's Michael London is executive producing while Jocelyn Hays Simpson is attached as a co-executive producer and Egan as a consultant. No writer is currently attached.
