UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - July 14, 2010 - NBCUniversal's Universal Media Studios again scored big with 49 total Emmy Award nominations while NBC garnered an impressive 45 Emmy nominations this morning when the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced its nominations for its 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. That tally places the network in second place in a close race among all broadcast networks.

"All of us at NBC and Universal Media Studios share in this morning's exciting news of the Emmy nominations and we congratulate every one of our talented nominees," said Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, NBC Entertainment. "It is especially gratifying to see first-time show nominees 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,' 'Parks and Recreation' and 'Friday Night Lights' join such acclaimed series as 'Saturday Night Live,' '30 Rock' and 'The Office' in being honored by their industry peers. This truly validates our passion for excellence in television."

Leading the charge is NBC's highly honored, all-time TV Academy record holder "Saturday Night Live" which rocked the announcements with a staggering single season best of 16 nominations bringing its career total to 142. The two-time winner for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series is up for its third statue in that category. The venerable series previously won in 1976 and 1993.

Also making its typically strong showing was the 14-time Emmy-winning comedy series "30 Rock," which again flexed its Emmy muscles by garnering 13 nominations including it fifth-consecutive nod in the Outstanding Comedy Series category. The critically acclaimed series has won the coveted honor three times in that category and also stands as the TV Academy's all-time, single awards year nomination record holder for a comedy series with its 2009 tally of 22. The show's 2008 haul of seven statuettes earned "30 Rock" a place in the comedy series record books tying the previous record holder, "All in the Family," which set the record in 1972 for the largest single season total.

"30 Rock"'s nominations were spearheaded by Alec Baldwin, a two-time winner for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, who was again nominated for his performance as Jack Donaghy. This is the 10th overall Emmy nomination for the Oscar-nominated actor ("The Cooler") and the fifth for his work on "30 Rock." Tina Fey, a 16-time Emmy nominee with seven wins including five for "30 Rock" (Executive Producer, 2007; Writing, 2008; Executive Producer, 2008; Lead Actress, 2008; Executive Producer, 2009), has also picked up another nomination for Lead Actress for her role as Liz Lemon. Further, she is nominated for a guest starring role hosting an episode of "Saturday Night Live." Jane Krakowski was again nominated for her supporting actress role on "30 Rock."

In guest-star categories, NBC continues to dominate the comedy field for Outstanding Guest Actor, which has resulted in Emmys in 10 of the past 14 years. This year, NBC has claimed four of the six spots -- two for "30 Rock" -- Matt Damon and Will Arnett -- who will face off against two for "SNL" -- Zach Galifianakis and Justin Timberlake. In addition, Elizabeth Banks was nominated for Guest Actress in a Comedy for "30 Rock." +On the drama side, Paul McCrane was nominated for "Harry's Law."

Emmy voters also turned out in force for other Universal Media Studios programs which gathered a combined 49 nominations. Further, NBCUniversal International Television Production and Carnival Films achieved a record 15 nominations - 11 for the production of "Downton Abbey (Masterpiece)" and four for "Any Human Heart (Masterpiece)" -- bringing NBCUniversal's production company tally to a record 64.

Besides "30 Rock," another Universal Media Studios contender resonating favorably with TV Academy voters is previous Outstanding Comedy Series winner "The Office" (2006), which scored with four nominations including another series nod. That brings to 39 its career total with four wins. This year's nominations include nine-time nominee Steve Carell, who will compete in the Lead Actor category again.

Another Universal Media Studios series making headlines is "Friday Night Lights," which picked up four nominations including one for its first nomination as Outstanding Drama Series. It also scored two for its leads, Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton.

"Law & Order: Special Victim Unit's" Mariska Hargitay, an Outstanding Lead Actress winner in 2006, picked up her eighth consecutive nomination which places her second on the all-time list, just four behind Angela Lansbury who holds 12 for "Murder, She Wrote." She squares off against Kathy Bates, a first-time Lead Actress in a Series nominee, who stars in the freshman series "Harry's Law," as well as Britton from "Friday Night Lights."

"House" title star Hugh Laurie nailed his sixth consecutive shot as Lead Actor in a Drama Series. He joins the "half-dozen nominations" club along with James Gandofini ("The Sopranos"), Kiefer Sutherland ("24") and Martin Sheen ("The West Wing"), and trails the leader, Dennis Franz ("Hill Street Blues"), by just two nominations.

Amy Poehler, a two-time nominee in a supporting role on "Saturday Night Live" (2008, 2009), picked up her second nomination in a Lead Actress role for her work on "Parks and Recreation."

NBCUniversal rang up three nominations, including Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Outstanding Special Class - Short-format Nonfiction Programs for Jay Leno's Garage, and Outstanding Special Class - Short-format Live-Action Entertainment Programs for 30 Rock: The Webisodes.
