THE MCCARTHYS (CBS/Sony; W: Brian Gallivan; D: TBA) - Laurie Metcalf ("Getting On") has joined the cast of the multi-camera comedy pilot, about a sports-crazed Irish-Catholic family that shares a three decker house in Boston and the one member, Ronny, that dares to move out on his own. She'll play the clan's loving mother Marjorie McCarthy, "who has no filter and loves having her gay son keep her company when her husband (Jack McGee) and other kids are off coaching basketball games." Jacki Weaver originated the role in last year's single-camera incarnation. Metcalf's involvement is in second position to the HBO comedy. Joey McIntyre also stars. (Deadline.com, 12/31/13)
UNTITLED MATT HUBBARD PROJECT (FOX/Universal; W: Matt Hubbard; D: Pamela Fryman) - Bonnie Dennison ("Guiding Light") is the first to be cast in the comedy pilot, which is set at a women's college that begins accepting men for the first time in its history. She'll play Thena (originally named Callie), "a pretty but uptight sophomore, a hard-core feminist and leader of the sizable population of Cabot College that does not want men on campus. However, her militance masks a vulnerable and romantic side that pops up in unexpected ways." David Miner, Robert Carlock and Tina Fey are also among the executive producers. (Deadline.com, 01/03/14)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Tamera Mowry has confirmed her reality series "Tia & Tamera" - which aired on the now defunct Style network - won't seek a fourth season (@TameraMowryTwo, 12/30/13); and "True Blood" co-star Luke Grimes has "asked to be let out of his contract after he learned what producers had in store for James in Season 7" and said role will be recast (TVLine.com, 12/30/13).
