ALIENIST, THE (TNT) - Matt Letscher will recur on "The Angel of Darkness" as newspaper titan William Randolph Hearst "whose unparalleled wealth and power swayed public opinion in New York and across the world." Additionally, Brittany Batchelder - who guest starred as Joanna, Cyrus Montrose's niece - will return in a recurring capacity. (Deadline.com)
DOOM LANDS (Quibi, New!) - Look Mom! Productions is developing an adult animation series for the short-form video platform. No other details were released. (Deadline.com)
DUNE: THE SISTERHOOD (WarnerMedia OTT, New!) - The streaming service has given a straight-to-series order to Legendary Television for a small screen take on Frank Herbert's classic novel. The project will compliment Warner Bros.' upcoming feature with director Denis Villeneuve attached to helm the debut episode. Jon Spaihts, one of the film's co-writers, is spearheading the series with Villeneuve, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert likewise executive producing and Kevin J. Anderson as a co-producer. The logline is as follows: "Frank Herbert's Dune portrays a future in which humanity has spread across the galaxy to thousands of worlds, all ruled by the Padishah Emperor, The Imperium. Dune: The Sisterhood explores this universe through the eyes of a mysterious order of women: the Bene Gesserit. Given extraordinary abilities by their mastery of the body and the mind, the Bene Gesserit expertly weave through the feudal politics and intrigue of The Imperium, pursuing plans of their own that will ultimately lead them to the enigmatic planet Arrakis - known to its inhabitants as Dune." FAST COMPANY (AMC, New!) - Carla Ching is looking to bring her play - which "tells the story of a legendary family of con artists whose complicated history has caused them to go their separate ways, but are forced back together when one of their cons goes sideways" - to the small screen at the cable channel. 3AD Media's Daniel Dae Kim and Rina Brannen will also executive produce for AMC Studios. FIRST WIVES CLUB (BET) - A proposed streaming service from the cable channel due this fall is now reportedly the targeted home for the long-in-the-works series, whose current incarnation began at sibling Paramount Network and subsequently relocated to BET. (THR.com)
MANHUNT: LONE WOLF (Spectrum) - Judith Light, Gethin Anthony and Jay O. Sanders are all bound for the anthology's second season. Light plays "Bobi" Jewell, "Richard's mother who is astonished when her son is heralded in the national media as the hero of the Atlanta bombing"; with Anthony as Jack Brennan, "the FBI lead agent in both the Richard Jewell case and manhunt for Eric Rudolph"; and Sanders as Watson Bryant, "a semi-qualified real estate lawyer who becomes Richard's fiercest advocate." PRISM (NBC) - Netflix is reportedly in preliminary talks to pick up the NBC pilot, which didn't make the cut for the Peacock's 2019-20 lineup. The project is billed as a provocative exploration of a murder trial in which every episode is told through the perspective of a different person involved. Producer Universal Television however has not picked up the options on the cast, which includes Malin Akerman and Mykelti Williamson. (Deadline.com)
TOMMY (CBS) - Tom Szentgyorgyi has signed on to serve as showrunner of the upcoming Edie Falco-led drama. He'll assume day-to-day duties from the ever-busy Paul Attanasio, who will remain an executive producer. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED SANDRA BULLOCK PROJECT (Amazon, New!) - K.C. Perry has sold a potential dramedy to the streaming service loosely inspired by Sandra Bullock's college years, set in "the deep south in the 1980s, where one darkly off-beat young woman defies expectations and sets out in search of love, community, and most importantly, an identity of her own." Bullock is executive producing the project via her Fortis Films with Weed Road's Akiva Goldsman and Greg Lessans; and Get Lifted Film Co.'s John Legend and Mike Jackson likewise attached. Marja-Lewis Ryan will serve as a consulting producer. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED STEVEN SODERBERGH PROJECT (Quibi, New!) - Steven Soderbergh is the latest auspice to land a project at the short-form video platform. No plot specifics were given about the "prestige offering." Mike Sugar will also presumably executive produce. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED STEVEN SPIELBERG PROJECT (Quibi, New!) - Steven Spielberg is writing a potential series for the short-form video platform. No specifics were given about the project other than "Spielberg only wanted Quibi subscribers to be able to watch it at midnight." Said development will "put a clock within the Quibi player to mean that viewers will only have a limited amount of time to watch the show." (Deadline.com)
VICE NEWS TONIGHT (HBO) - The pay channel has nixed its nightly news show "Vice News Tonight." "We've decided not to renew Vice News Tonight after this season," HBO EVP of Programming Nina Rosenstein said in a statement. "We've had a terrific seven years partnering with VICE Media, first with the weekly news magazine series and most recently with the nightly news show. We want to particularly thank Josh Tyrangiel for his tireless effort in creating a news show from the ground up, geared for a modern generation of viewers. We are very proud of what Josh and his team accomplished." (Deadline.com)
