Wednesday's Broadcast Ratings: FOX, "Empire" Hold Off NBC's "Voice" Special

Here are the highlights of the 16 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (4/18/18):

FOX (4.676 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.5, #1) was still the top demo draw on Wednesday with fresh installments of "Empire" (5.317 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.7, #1) and "Star" (4.036 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.3, #5).

NBC (7.118 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.3, #2) then was a close second with a special "The Voice" (8.241 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T3) followed by new episodes from "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (6.533 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T3) and "Chicago PD" (6.581 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.2, #6).

Next up was CBS (6.327 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.1, #3) and its mix of "Survivor: Ghost Island" (7.696 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.6, #2), "Criminal Minds" (5.956 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.0, #7) and the season finale of "Criminal Minds" (5.330 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 0.9, #8).

Meanwhile, ABC (3.231 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.7, #4) offered up its lineup of "The Goldbergs" (3.539 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T10), a new "Alex, Inc." (2.856 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T12), "Modern Family" (3.086 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T10), "American Housewife" (2.906 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.8, #9) and a new "Designated Survivor" (3.499 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T12).

And finally, a new "Riverdale" (1.078 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T14) and the return of "The Originals" (1.003 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T14) on The CW (1.040 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.4, #5) rounded out the night.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.5/3; "Late Show," 0.4/2; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.4/3.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.1/4 in metered-market households and a 0.2/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, ratings were: "Late Night with Seth Meyers," 1.0/4 in metered-market households with an encore; CBS's "Late Late Show," 1.1/4. In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, averages were: "Late Night," 0.3/3 in 18-49 with an encore; "Late Late Show," 0.2/2.

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.6/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.2/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.

CBS (6.821 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.4, #1) was the network to beat on Wednesday with new episodes of "Survivor: Game Changers" (8.232 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.8, #1), a second "Survivor: Game Changers" (7.451 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.6, #2) and "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders" (4.780 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T8).
