Sunday Primetime (7:00-11:00 p.m.)

Competing against NBC's "NFL Sunday Night Football" (Seahawks-Buccaneers) and CBS' highly-rated NFL primetime overrun into the 7 o'clock hour, ABC ranked No. 1 on Sunday among Adults 18-49 (3.7/9-tied with CBS) [rank subject to adjustment, based on the time-period based Fast Affiliate Ratings] and finished second on the night in Total Viewers (11.1 million). For the 4th consecutive week, ABC stood as the No. 1 television network on Sunday night across all key women demos: W18-34 (4.0/11), W18-49 (4.9/12) and W25-54 (5.6/13).

* For the 4th time in as many weeks, ABC's "Desperate Housewives" stood as Sunday Night's No. 1 TV program among Adults 18-49. In addition, the program was the most-watched show overall on Sunday for the 3rd time in 4 weeks.

"America's Funniest Home Videos" (7:00-8:00 p.m.)

ABC's "America's Funniest Home Videos" was the top entertainment choice in the 7 o'clock hour in Total Viewers (8.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.1/6). Airing against CBS' NFL overrun, the video-clip show improved its performance over the prior week by 1.9 million viewers and by 11% among young adults (6.3 million & 1.9/5 in Adults 18-49).

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

Surging from its lead-in, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" took second in the hour in Total Viewers (10.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (3.6/9), finishing in a virtual tie for No. 1 with Fox (3.7/9) with its animated comedy combo ("The Simpsons"/"King of the Hill") in the key adult demo. The unscripted program ranked No. 1 in the 8 o'clock hour across all key women demos: W18-34 (3.6/10), W18-49 (4.6/11) and W25-54 (5.2/12). "

Desperate Housewives" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

ABC's "Desperate Housewives" won its 9pm time period in Total Viewers (15.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (5.6/12), dominating NBC's "Sunday Night Football" (8.9 million and 3.4/8) and CBS' "Amazing Race"/"Cold Case" (10.5 million and 2.8/6).

"Brothers & Sisters" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

Opposite the final hour of NBC's "Sunday Night Football," ABC's "Brothers & Sisters" won the 10 o'clock hour across each of the key Adult demographics [Adults 18-34 (2.8/7), Adults 18-49 (3.5/9) and Adults 25-54 (4.2/10)], taking the top spot in the key adults sales demo for the first time this season.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 28% currently, from 20% at the same point in 2007. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
