WEEK No. 7:

During the week of November 3, 2008, ABC took first place among Adults 18-49 (3.2/8), tied in rating with an NFL-boosted NBC ("Sunday Night Football" Giants vs. Eagles) but leading in actual numbers of viewers in the key young adult sales demo (4.27 million vs. 4.24 million). The Net also delivered the No. 1 position for the week in Adults 25-54 (3.9/9 tied w/CBS). For the 7th week in a row this season, ABC registered as the No. 1 network among Women 18-34 (3.2/9) and Women 18-49 (4.1/10).

Improving its results for the 3rd straight weekly frame in Total Viewers (10.4 million) and Adults 18-49 (3.2/8), ABC turned in its strongest numbers in 6 weeks on both Nielsen measures best since season-premiere week (w/o 9/22/08).

Season to date based on all programming, ABC ranks No. 1 among Adults 18-49 in Nielsen's Most Current program averages (3.3/9 - tied in rating with CBS, but leading in actual numbers of viewers = 4.33 million vs. 4.32 million), outpacing both NBC and Fox by 10% in rating (3.0/8). ABC is also the No. 1 network this season in the industry's Sales currency of C3 Adult 18-49 Ratings (Commercial Ratings + 3 Days of Playback), based on all programming: ABC No. 1 (2.83 rating), CBS No. 2 (2.80 rating), Fox No. 3 (2.69 rating) and NBC No. 4 (2.55 rating). Excluding sports, to get at each network's core schedule this season, ABC holds advantages over second-place CBS of +6% in the Most Current Program averages (3.4/9 vs. 3.2/9) and +5% in the C3 Commercial averages (2.97 rating vs. 2.84 rating). Additionally, ABC claims the Top 2 highest-rated TV shows for the season in both Nielsen metrics, with "Grey's Anatomy" and "Desperate Housewives," respectively.

Rankings: ABC aired 3 of the week's Top 10 TV programs among Adults 18-49, including the Top 2 scripted series with "Grey's Anatomy" and "Desperate Housewives": "Grey's Anatomy" No. 2, "Desperate Housewives" No. 3 and "Vote 2008 9:00PM - 11/4/08" No. 9. The Network claimed 4 of the Top 7 most-watched television shows overall for the week: "Dancing with the Stars" No. 4, "Desperate Housewives" No. 5, "DWTS Results" No. 6 and "Grey's Anatomy" No. 7. In addition, "Grey's Anatomy" stood as the week's No. 1 TV show in Adults 18-34, and between "Grey's" and "Housewives" ABC delivered the Top 2 TV programs for the week across all key Women demographics (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 28% currently, from 21% at the same point in 2007. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

Monday

ABC was the most-watched broadcast network (12.4 million), outdelivering NBC by 3% (12.0 million), CBS by 14% (10.9 million) and Fox by 138% (5.2 million).

Television's second-most watched comedy of the season, ABC's "Samantha Who?" outdrew its comedy competition in the time slot, CBS' "Worst Week," by 5% (8.7 million vs. 8.3 million).
