Wednesday's Broadcast Ratings: "ESPY Awards" Put ABC on Top

Here are the highlights of the 12 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (7/12/17):

ABC (5.303 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.4, #1) staked claim to the top spot on Wednesday with its telecast of "The 2017 ESPY Awards" (5.303 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.4, #2).

CBS (4.904 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.0, #2) then had to settle for the silver with a new "Big Brother 19" (6.408 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.9, #1), the premiere of "Salvation" (4.833 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T5) and a repeat "Criminal Minds" (3.472 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T8).

Next up was FOX (2.698 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.8, #3) with originals from "MasterChef" (3.441 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.0, #3) and "The F Word with Gordon Ramsay" (1.956 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.6, #7).

Meanwhile, NBC (3.595 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.6, #4) served up new episodes of "Little Big Shots: Forever Young" (6.002 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 0.9, #4) and "The Carmichael Show" (3.190 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T5) plus repeats of "The Carmichael Show" (2.472 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T8) and "This Is Us" (1.954 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.4, #10).

And finally, a repeat "Arrow" (0.787 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.2, #T11) and the special "The 15 Most Iconic Summer Blockbusters of All Time" (0.628 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.2, #T11) rounded out the night on The CW (0.707 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.2, #5).

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.6/4 with an encore; "Late Show," 0.7/4; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.5/3.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.1/4 in metered-market households and a 0.3/3 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, ratings were: "Late Night with Seth Meyers," 0.9/3 in metered-market households with an encore; CBS's "Late Late Show," 1.0/4 with an encore. In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, averages were: "Late Night," 0.3/3 in 18-49 with an encore; "Late Late Show," 0.2/2 with an encore.

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.6/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.2/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 11 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (7/13/16):

NBC (9.734 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.9, #1) pulled into the top spot on Wednesday with new episodes of "America's Got Talent" (11.439 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.3, #1) and "The Night Shift" (6.325 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.3, #4).

ABC (5.480 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.6, #2) then claimed the silver with its presentation of "The 2016 ESPY Awards" (5.480 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.6, #3).

Next up was CBS (4.023 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.0, #3) and its trio of "Big Brother 18" (5.895 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.7, #2), "Criminal Minds" (3.392 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T6) and "American Gothic" (2.784 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.5, #8).

Meanwhile, FOX (3.052 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.9, #4) offered up originals from "MasterChef" (3.571 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.1, #5) and "Wayward Pines" (2.535 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T6).

And finally, The CW (1.314 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.4, #5) closed out the evening with its new lineup of "Penn & Teller: Fool Us" (1.463 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T9), "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" (1.229 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T9) and a repeat "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" (1.101 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T9).
