Thursday's Broadcast Ratings: NFL Opens Preseason on Top for NBC

Here are the highlights of the 12 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (8/1/19):

NBC (4.995 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.4, #1) pulled into the top spot on Thursday with its telecast of "NFL Kickoff Pre-Game" (5.616 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T1) and "NFL Preseason: Hall of Fame Game - Denver vs. Atlanta" (4.871 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T1).

FOX (2.877 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 0.7, #2) then was the silver draw with fresh installments from "MasterChef" (3.319 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.8, #4) and "Spin the Wheel" (2.435 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T6).

Next up was CBS (2.868 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.6, #3) and its trio of "Love Island" (2.405 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T6), "Big Brother 21" (3.781 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.0, #3) and "Elementary" (2.416 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T9).

Meanwhile, ABC (2.358 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.5, #4) served up originals from "Holey Moley" (3.242 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.7, #5), "Family Food Fight" (1.847 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.4, #8) and "Reef Break" (1.985 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T9).

And finally, the series finale of "iZombie" (0.801 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.2, #T11) and a new "The Outpost" (0.652 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.2, #T11) rounded out the evening on The CW (0.727 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.2, #5).

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," delayed by an NFL overrun; "Late Show," 0.3/2; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.3/2.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.0/4 in metered-market households and a 0.3/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, ratings were: "Late Night with Seth Meyers," delayed by an NFL overrun; CBS's "Late Late Show," 0.8/3. In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, 18-49 averages were: "Late Night," delayed by an NFL overrun; "Late Late Show," 0.1/1.

· At 1:35 a.m., an encore "Last Call with Carson Daly" was delayed by an NFL overrun.


Here are the highlights of the 13 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (8/2/18):

NBC (6.502 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.8, #1) rose to the top spot on Thursday with its coverage of "NFL Kickoff Pre-Game" (7.098 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.9, #1) and "NFL Preseason: Hall of Fame Game - Baltimore vs. Chicago" (6.383 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.8, #2).

CBS (4.802 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T2) then had to settle for second with its mix of "The Big Bang Theory" (5.938 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.0, #5), "Young Sheldon" (5.698 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T6), "Big Brother 20" (5.512 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.4, #3) and "SWAT" (3.075 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T8).

Sharing the silver was FOX (3.372 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T2) with the penultimate "The Four: Battle for Stardom" (3.064 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T6) and the season finale of "The Four: Battle for Stardom" (3.679 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.1, #4).

Meanwhile, ABC (2.722 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.5, #4) offered up a new "The Gong Show" (3.021 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T8), a repeat "Match Game" (2.598 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T8) and a new "Take Two" (2.548 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.4, #11).

And finally, repeats of "Supernatural" (0.690 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.2, #12) and "Black Lightning" (0.493 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.1, #13) on The CW (0.591 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.1, #5) rounded out the evening.
