DESCRIPTION:
(from The CW's web site, August 2022) Based on the novel I Diavoli by Guido Maria Brera, DEVILS is an international thriller that follows appointed CEO of the New York-London Investment Bank, Massimo Ruggeo (Alessandro Borghi) and Dominic Morgan (Patrick Dempsey), one of the most influential figures in the world of international finance. It’s 2016 – four years since the events that saw Massimo Ruggero’s lover Sofia Flores killed and Dominic Morgan fired from the New York London Bank. In the time that has passed, Massimo has become CEO of NYL, which is now part owned by the Chinese as part of a Chinamerica initiative. Although he is flying high in his career, Massimo has nothing in his life outside of work and this has created a distance between him and the other ‘Pirates’ – Oliver Harris (Malachi Kirby), Kalim Chowdhrey (Paul Chowdhry) and Eleanor Bourg (Pia Mechler). The increased Chinese influence at the bank is represented by new Head of Trading Wu Zhi (Li Jun Li) and her compatriot, the urbane financier Cheng Liwei (Joel de la Feunte). Although Zhi and Massimo work well together, and there is a strong connection between them, her arrival has also caused resentment among the team. There is disruption and turmoil in the wider world too, with the Brexit referendum offering both a huge opportunity and a major threat to the bank. In the febrile aftermath of the unexpected outcome of the vote, tragedy strikes at the heart of Massimo’s team and he is catapulted into a deadly conspiracy, hinging on the war over data being fought between the two great superpowers of the 21st century – America and China. Into this conflict, Dominic Morgan returns from exile, determined to fight the Chinese with a new company backed by extremely powerful and potentially dangerous allies. As Massimo is drawn deeper into trying to get to the truth, his relationship with his closest friends, his job, and ultimately his life will all be threatened. And as the data war escalates, Massimo discovers that democracy itself is under attack, and he embarks on a radical strategy to protect our liberty and freedoms. But it is only years later, when the global Covid pandemic hits in 2020, that he has the opportunity to fight back against his enemies and try to achieve justice for the friends he has lost. The series also stars Lars Mikkelsen (“The Killing,” “Sherlock”) and Clara Rosager (“Morbius”). DEVILS is a Sky Original series produced by Sky Italia, Lux Vide and Big Light Productions in collaboration with Sky Studios, Orange Studios and OCS. NBCUniversal Global Distribution handles international sales on behalf of Sky Studios.
