AMBER FREY: WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION, a new television movie starring Janel Moloney ("The West Wing"), will be broadcast Wednesday, May 25 (9:00-11:00 PM ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. The drama, based on Frey's life story and book Witness: For the Prosecution of Scott Peterson, will focus on her relationship with convicted murderer Scott Peterson, now on death row. Nora Dunn ("Saturday Night Live"), Terry Kinney ("The Laramie Project") and Paget Brewster ("Huff") also star.
When Amber Frey (Moloney) met Scott Peterson (Nathan Anderson), she thought that she had finally met the man of her dreams. He was handsome and smart, kind and considerate and claimed to be single and ready to settle down. But, Amber began to suspect that something was amiss with Scott's story and, when an investigator friend offered to check him out, she gave the okay.
Scott claimed to be taking a trip to Europe on the night the investigator called Amber and told her to turn on the news. She was stunned to see Scott talking about the fact that his wife, Laci, then eight months pregnant with their son, Connor, was missing. Realizing that everything Scott had told her was a lie, Amber called the Modesto Police Department, told them she was dating Scott Peterson, and offered to do whatever she could to help.
The Modesto Police asked Amber to tape her conversations with Scott and encouraged her to try to get information that could be used in their investigation. Amber also decided to go public with her own story, apologize to Laci's family and offer to help find her.
In the process, Amber's own life is forever changed as the most intimate personal details of the young single mother's life are reported daily in the media. Pressure builds as she takes considerable risks for justice and realizes her testimony and taped telephone calls with Scott Peterson will be key to the prosecution's case against him.
Nora Dunn plays Amber Frey's attorney, Gloria Allred. Terry Kinney plays Modesto Police Det. Neil O'Hara, who conducted the murder investigation, and Paget Brewster plays her friend, Carol, who arranged her blind date with Scott Peterson.
