"Dateline" to Air Documentary on Teach for America -- Sat., August 26

NBC NEWS' HODA KOTB REPORTS IN, "THE EDUCATION OF MS. GROVES," AIRING ON SATURDAY, AUG. 26 AT 8 P.M. ON "DATELINE NBC"

(New York, N.Y.) � August 15, 2006 � In the upcoming documentary, "The Education of Ms. Groves," "Dateline's" Hoda Kotb spends a full school year following the trials and experience of first-year teacher, Ms. Monica Groves, as she enters the Atlanta, Georgia school system as an English teacher at Jean Childs Young Middle School. Groves, 21, became part of a select group of first year teachers chosen by the prestigious education-focused organization, "Teach for America," which recruits some of the most accomplished college graduates in the country to teach in low-income communities.

The hour-long documentary, airing on Saturday, Aug. 26 (8:00 P.M, ET/PT), focuses on Groves' idealism and commitment to her sixth grade students as she inevitably confronts the realities of urban education. The story chronicles three students, who with the help of Groves, overcome obstacles on their way to educational success. Kotb interviews Groves at length about her goals, fears and accomplishments throughout the school year, as well as family members of the students and the principle of Jean Childs Young Middle School. Also included in the report are Groves' personal reflections throughout this experience, recorded on a DV camera provided to her by "Dateline."
