PRIMETIME: THE OUTSIDERS EXAMINES UNUSUAL PEOPLE
WITH UNIMAGINABLE LIVES
From animal and religious extremists to polygamists and the Amish, an ABC News special series examines people who live by their own rules and in their own worlds - worlds that the average person may find unimaginable. Primetime: The Outsiders takes viewers behind closed doors to try and understand these bizarre living arrangements, odd obsessions and unusual lives. Primetime: The Outsiders airs TUESDAY, AUGUST 22 (10:01-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
This week Primetime looks at people who are radical believers. Cynthia McFadden updates a report on controversial twin teenage girls whose music has become a recruiting tool for a white nationalist movement. Fourteen-year-olds Lamb and Lynx Gaede are blond-haired, blue-eyed, and spreading a musical message of white supremacy. They perform some songs of admiration about Nazis and white power to all-white crowds. Were proud of being white we dont want to just be you know a big muddle. We just want to preserve our race, Lynx tells McFadden. Since Primetime first reported on the twins last fall, they have received national attention discussed, debated and even included in a recent book listing 110 People Who Are Screwing Up America. The report looks at the latest on the duo, including releasing their second album, a custody battle and being the inspiration for a new musical entitled White Noise: A Cautionary Tale.
Then: As a boy, Ricky Rodriguez was the poster child for the popular Children of God religious sect, exalted by the groups leader as its prophet-in-waiting. The sect eventually shrank from the spotlight due to growing scrutiny about its alleged sexual practices, including the encouragement of sexual contact between children and adults and the use of sex to recruit new members. When the now 29-year-old Rodriquez brutally murdered another former cult member and then committed suicide last year, those decades-old allegations of widespread abuse and exploitation of children came to the fore once again. Children of God has re-emerged with a new name Family International and says it has renounced sexual activity between adults and children. But former members tell Jay Schadler they dont believe the sect has ever really paid its debt to the children who were abused.
David Sloan is the executive producer of Primetime: The Outsiders.
