Jay Mohr ("Last Comic Standing") Begins A Recurring Role As Professor Rick Payne

"Love Never Dies" -- Melinda is caught in a tug of war with "Wide Brim" over Andrea's fate following a tragic plane crash, in part one of the second season premiere on GHOST WHISPERER, Friday, Sept. 22 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. John Gray, one of the series' executive producers, directed and wrote the episode.

Melinda is greatly concerned when it seems that Andrea is being influenced by "Wide Brim." She goes to Professor Rick Payne, an expert in occult beliefs and history, to see if he can identify "Wide Brim" in order to win the battle for her friend's fate. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Melinda, a young man who seems to be obsessed with her makes plans to fly from Seattle to see her.

Jay Mohr starred in the television series "Action" and co-created, executive produced and hosted the reality show "Last Comic Standing." He was also a writer and performer on "Saturday Night Live." He often serves as host on "Jim Rome Show," a syndicated sports radio show. His feature film credits include "Jerry Maguire," "Picture Perfect," "Go," "Pay It Forward," "Suicide Kings" "Kings Ransom," "The Groomsmen" and the upcoming "Jump Shot."

Melinda Gordon communicates with earthbound spirits, ghosts who cling to the living because they have unfinished business that prevents them from moving beyond the familiar plane of existence that we call life. Inspired in part by the work of famed medium James Van Praagh and of Mary Ann Winkowski, a real-life communicator with spirits, GHOST WHISPERER explores the spiritual side of life and death as Melinda navigates among the dead and the living in her sometimes chilling, sometimes heart-rending and sometimes amusing attempts to act as an intermediary between the ghosts and those they haunt. Jim, her husband, worries about the emotional toll this work is taking on his wife. Andrea, her friend and business partner in their antique store, is fascinated by Melinda's talent. For her part, Melinda accepts her unique abilities as a blessing and sometime curse, but always helps her clients, alive or dead, find emotional closure.
