Five young and ambitious rookie cops continue to navigate the emotional trials and tribulations of their professional and personal lives. Last summer these rookies hit the streets for the first time with their training officers and learned how to walk the thin blue line. Now the training wheels are off. More experienced, they're ready to kick some serious butt. But these rookies are just beginning to realize there are no shortcuts to being successful at this job. And when you're a rookie officer, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, as they discover when "Rookie Blue" premieres THURSDAY, JUNE 23 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

For Andy McNally - the rookie at the center of Division 15's newest and finest - the frenetic world of policing is almost as rough a terrain to navigate as that of her complicated personal life. She managed to step out of her screwed-up, ex-cop father's unfortunate shadow to forge her own path. However, as Andy discovers, when you weave the chaos of superior officers, romantic liaisons, absentee family and the pressures of being a 20-something newbie into the fabric of this brother-and-sisterhood in blue, you get a world where danger, sex and high-stakes drama intermingle with the natural heartbreak of policing.

In the premiere episode, "Butterflies," Andy's world explodes when a fresh-faced university student is caught in the crossfire during a random concert shooting. Devastated by the seemingly senseless act of violence, she sets out to unravel the motive and track down the shooter -- putting her in direct conflict with Division 15's new detective, Jo Rosati. Meanwhile, as Rosati investigates her own angle on the concert mayhem, sparks fly between her and her former partner, Detective Luke Callaghan.

After seven months on the beat, McNally, Dov Epstein, Chris Diaz, Traci Nash and Gail Peck have learned how to be cops. They've experienced a learning curve that's steeper than they ever imagined, and they've learned first-hand that making a rookie mistake could cost them - or someone else -- their life. In the next seven months on the job, they will do it all again - only better.

"Rookie Blue" stars Missy Peregrym ("Heroes," "Reaper") as Andy McNally, Gregory Smith ("Everwood") as Dov Epstein, Charlotte Sullivan ("The Kennedys") as Gail Peck, Enuka Okuma ("24") as Traci Nash, Travis Milne ("Manson, My Name Is Evil") as Chris Diaz, Ben Bass ("The Eleventh Hour") as Sam Swarek and Eric Johnson ("Smallville") as Detective Luke Callaghan. Also starring in the series is Melanie Nicholls-King as Noelle Williams, Matt Gordon as Oliver Shaw, Noam Jenkins as Detective Jerry Barber and Lyric Bent as Frank Best.

Guest starring in "Butterflies" are Camille Sullivan ("DaVinci's Inquest") as Detective Jo Rosati, Rebecca Williams as Kate Novatski, Aaron Abrams as Donovan Boyd, Jeff Irving as Adrian Sparks and Kristen Gutoskie as Miranda.

"Butterflies" was written by Tassie Cameron and directed by David Wellington.
