A FORMER PAGEANT PRINCESS STRUGGLES TO MANAGE HER EXCESS WEIGHT,
ON ABC'S "EXTREME WEIGHT LOSS"
Rocco Dispirito, Miss America 2014 Nina Davuluri and
Sugarland's Thad Beaty Guest Star
"Brandi" (Atlanta, GA) - As a child, Brandi fell in love with beauty pageants after watching them on television with her mother. A born performer, she took ballet plus tap lessons and competed in pageants for years. By the time she was 12, Brandi weighed more than 250 pounds, and comment cards from pageant judges told her over and over that she was too heavy to compete. Crushed by the criticism, Brandi quit competing and continued to put on weight throughout high school and well into her 20s. After reaching 329 pounds, she wrote a letter to trainer and transformation specialist Chris Powell asking him for help. Brandi's year-long physical and emotional journey will be documented on the hit series "Extreme Weight Loss," airing TUESDAY, JULY 15 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET/PT) on the ABC Television Network.
Today, 29-year-old Brandi is a freelance makeup artist in the beauty pageant world. Though she says making others feel beautiful makes her feel beautiful as well, she still secretly wishes to be one of the beauty queens standing on stage. During her time on "EWL," Brandi will get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet and work with Miss America 2014 Nina Davuluri.
Brandi will also become Chris' first client to compete in a Half Ironman, under the tutelage of Ironman competitor and Sugarland guitarist Thad Beaty. The Half Ironman Triathlon is a brutal challenge that will force her to swim, bike and run a combined 70.3 miles in under eight hours.
Celebrity chef Rocco Dispirito teaches Brandi how to eat healthier versions of her favorite meals in order to achieve her goal of losing a pound a day.
New in Season 4 for "EWL," in addition to working with Chris and Heidi Powell, each participant spends the first 90 days of his or her weight loss journey at the renowned University of Colorado's Anschutz Health and Wellness Center (AHWC) in Aurora, CO.
Chris and Heidi, along with AHWC's medical director Holly Wyatt, MD, associate professor of medicine at the University of Colorado, guide participants on their journeys to safely lose up to half their body weight, ultimately revealing an amazing metamorphosis. The Anschutz Health and Wellness Center offers some of the country's most advanced research and science-based expertise, focusing on a comprehensive weight loss and weight loss management approach, including fitness, nutrition and wellness services.
"Extreme Weight Loss" is produced by Eyeworks USA. JD Roth, Todd A. Nelson, Matt Assmus and Brant Pinvidic are the executive producers.
