"WHO CAN YOU TRUST?" ON "20/20"
Plus a Tribute to Mike Nichols
A friend, a nanny, a household product - all things you should be able to trust. But how well do you really know the people closest to you or products you might use on a daily basis? "Who Can You Trust?" airs on "20/20" on FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21 (10:01-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. Reports include:
· The sexual assault allegations against actor and comedian Bill Cosby are once again making headlines. Elizabeth Vargas sits down with Therese Serignese, the seventh woman to come forward, in her first network interview.
· My Best Frenemy: Vicheka Ly, known to her friends as "Vee," was living the good life in Portland, Oregon. She seemed like a typical 20-something but lived life bigger and louder than most - going on expensive shopping sprees and spending late nights at various downtown clubs. But when thousands of dollars and credit cards go missing from her friends and family, everyone turns to Vee for answers. Suddenly she is nowhere to be found. Is she onto her next victim? With theft and forgery charges pending in Oregon, Vee goes on the lam for several months and is sighted partying in Vegas and LA. "20/20" is there every step of the way, including the shocking conclusion to Vee's spree. Chris Connelly reports.
· Recall Roulette: In a unique partnership with the investigative teams of more than a dozen major market ABC affiliates, ABC News' Brian Ross takes a hard look at the flawed government recall system that has allowed tens of millions of potentially dangerous, recalled products to remain in homes, in stores and for sale online. Ross tracks down dozens of illegal sales and compelling stories from across the country involving Americans unaware that products in their home could pose a true danger. In his first major network interview, the new chief of the Consumer Safety Product Commission declares war on manufacturers who don't do enough to get out the word on the recalls of potentially dangerous products and also takes specific aim at Craigslist, which he says, has refused to do what Amazon and eBay have done in installing a system of filters to work aggressively to keep recalled, potentially dangerous products from being offered for sale on their sites. The founder of Craigslist, Craig Newmark, refused to discuss the issue when Ross encountered him outside his San Francisco home. The CPSC chairman calls his site's actions "immoral and irresponsible."
· Nightmare Nannies: It's a headline we see far too often, nightmare nannies violating a most sacred trust by abusing their charges. With nanny cams almost a given in people's homes, many families are catching the abuse, but how can it be prevented from the first place? "20/20" looks at ways families can try to stop a nightmare nanny from ever entering your home, and tells the harrowing story of Whitney Matney, a young mother on a mission to prevent families from falling prey to abusive nannies, after her daughter was abused by a nanny she thought she could trust.
"20/20" is anchored by Elizabeth Vargas and David Muir. David Sloan is senior executive producer.
