NBC to Broadcast Super Bowl XLIX from Arizona
STAMFORD, Conn. - Jan. 7, 2014 - NBC's coverage of the 2014 NFL Playoffs continue this Saturday, Jan. 10, with an AFC Divisional Playoff matchup between Tom Brady and the AFC East champion New England Patriots and Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens at 4:30 p.m. ET. Coverage on Saturday begins at 3:30 p.m. ET with a special edition of Football Night In America. Saturday marks NBC's final NFL broadcast before hosting coverage of Super Bowl XLIX in Arizona on Sunday, Feb. 1.
During NBC's Wild Card game last Saturday, the Ravens defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 30-17, with quarterback Flacco throwing for 259 yards with two touchdowns. Saturday marked Flacco's 14th career postseason start, tying Brady for the most postseason starts by a quarterback in his first seven seasons. Brady has 18 career postseason wins, the most in NFL history. The Patriots come off a first-round playoff bye for the fifth season in a row after earning the No. 1 spot in the AFC with a Week 16 win over the New York Jets.
Saturday's matchup between the Ravens and Patriots marks the fourth time in the past six seasons that these teams have met in the postseason, with all three taking place in New England. Two meetings have been AFC Championship Games, with the Patriots defeating the Ravens 23-20 in 2012, and the Ravens earning a 28-13 win over Patriots the following season en route to their victory in Super Bowl XLVII in 2013.
Calling Ravens-Patriots is seven-time Emmy Award-winner Al Michaels (play-by-play), in his 29th season as the voice of the NFL's premier primetime package; 15-time Emmy Award-winner Cris Collinsworth, who has won the Emmy for Outstanding Event Analyst in each of his five seasons in the Sunday Night Football booth; and two-time Emmy Award-winning sideline reporter Michele Tafoya.
NBC's coverage of Sunday Night Football is led by Emmy Award-winning producer Fred Gaudelli and Emmy Award-winning director Drew Esocoff. Sunday Night Football has won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Live Sports Series for a record six consecutive years.
Football Night in America, the most-watched studio show in sports, is hosted by 26-time Emmy Award-winner Bob Costas, who will report from Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., on Saturday. Costas will be joined on site by Collinsworth, Tafoya, two-time Super Bowl winner Hines Ward, and NBC Sports commentator Josh Elliott.
Dan Patrick co-hosts Football Night from NBC Sports Group's Studio 1 and will be joined by Super Bowl-winning head coach Tony Dungy, two-time Super Bowl winner Rodney Harrison, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk on NBCSN and NBCSports.com, and Peter King of Sports Illustrated.
MIKE FLORIO AND PFT CREW PREVIEW RAVENS-PATRIOTS
Florio on who is most important for the Patriots' offense: "Without question, it's tight end Rob Gronkowski. In recent years when Gronkowski was injured, that offense wasn't the same. The team really took off this season once Gronkowski was back in full 100%. If he's able to go all game long - and he's not injured now, but if he avoids injury - that's going to make it harder for the Ravens to beat the Patriots."
Florio on Ravens: "John Harbaugh has the advantage, because Jim [Harbaugh], I know he has another job to deal with, but, he's available to bounce ideas off of with game planning. That's the ace in the hole for John Harbaugh... not that he needs it, because John Harbaugh is 2-1 against Belichick on his own field in the postseason."
mun2 TO AIR RAVENS-PATRIOTS AFC DIVISIONAL PLAYOFF GAME TO SPANISH-LANGUAGE HOMES ACROSS AMERICA
NBCUniversal's Hispanic cable network mun2 continues to bring NFL football to the homes of Latinos across the U.S., with the exclusive Spanish-language broadcast of Ravens-Patriots on Saturday.
La NFL en mun2 pre-game show will begin live from Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., at 4 p.m. ET. Bringing viewers all the action on the field throughout this AFC Divisional Playoff clash will be play-by-play announcer Rene Giraldo, along with color commentator Edgar Lopez and sideline reporter Veronica Contreras.
