A MILLIONAIRE IS WILLING TO SHELL OUT $80,000 TO HAVE
SOMEONE KILL HIS WIFE - WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?
"48 HOURS" INVESTIGATES IN "THE MILLIONAIRE,
THE MODEL & THE HIT MAN"
SATURDAY, JAN. 31, 2014
Did a millionaire really want his model wife dead so badly that he was willing to hire a hit man to kill her? And if he did, was $80,000 enough to get the job done?
Troy Roberts and 48 HOURS investigate the twisted relationship between millionaire health supplement distributor and a wannabe rock 'n roller, Dino Guglielmelli, his model wife, Monica Olsen, and the presumed hit man who came into the picture, Richard Fuhrmann in "The Millionaire, The Model & The Hit Man" to be broadcast Jan. 31, 2015 (10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
"This story is definitely ripe for a made-for-TV movie where you have the ex-model-turned-housewife, with the millionaire husband who is cheating on his wife, and tries to hire a hit man because he's not winning his divorce," Los Angeles Assistant District Attorney Emily Cole tells 48 HOURS.
Guglielmelli and Olsen were married for seven years and seemed to have a perfect relationship. He was a dashing executive, who fronted a rock band. She was model and mother of two beautiful children. They seemed to live the fairytale life. However, not everything was as it seemed. Cole says Guglielmelli was cheating on Olsen throughout their relationship. And he was upset that she had returned to modeling.
"Dino wanted too much," Cole says. "He wanted the hot model wife and his kids. But then he wanted everything on the side."
And, says Cole, he ultimately wanted her dead. But would his alleged wish come true?
"She was beautiful," says Olsen's friend, Olya Banar. "She is very photogenic. If this whole thing wouldn't have happened we would see her on the big screens right now, definitely."
Banar says that Olsen gave up modeling when she had children, but a couple years later she wanted to be more independent. "I think Dino was scared of losing control over Monica," Banar says, adding he became "more aggressive, more controlling towards her."
"I didn't care for her," Guglielmelli's brother, Emilio says of Olsen. "I thought she was a gold-digger, and had other motives."
When he couldn't get his way in the divorce, prosecutors maintain, Guglielmelli sought the help of friend and business partner. Fuhrmann says Guglielmelli talked about killing his wife for more than a year. Fuhrmann went to authorities and agreed to wear a wire. Over lunch, Fuhrmann got Guglielmelli to repeat that he would pay $80,000 to have Olsen killed.
"He wanted her dead and he didn't care how it was done - beat her up, cut her head off put her in ditch, " Fuhrmann tells 48 HOURS.
Not so, Guglielmelli tells Roberts. "I really didn't think anybody was going to be dead, I mean, I'm just answering the question," he tells Roberts. "I know what the tape appears to be like, but I didn't take any of it seriously, I really didn't."
Roberts and 48 HOURS piece together the relationship and the case against Dino Guglielmelli through interviews with Monica Olsen, Guglielmelli, Guglielmelli's brothers, Gino and Emilio, Guglielmelli's ex-wife and others. 48 HOURS: "The Millionaire, The Model & The Hit Man" is produced by Judy Rybak and Greg Fisher. Al Briganti is the executive editor. Susan Zirinsky is the senior executive producer.
