THE HUNTER AND THE HUNTED ON "20/20"
"20/20" Travels to the Center of the Jungle for the Most Complete Picture yet of What Happened When an American Trophy Hunter Killed a Country's Beloved Lion, Cecil
Airing Friday, August 14 at 10 pm on ABC
"20/20" reports on the roar and the up-roar heard around the world when Cecil the Lion was hunted and killed by an American dentist in Zimbabwe. What really happened during the 15-hour hunt? From the first outsider who discovered the lion had been killed, to all-new details about the killing and questions of whether it was almost covered up, "20/20" takes viewers to Hwange National Park where it all began - and ended for the beloved tourist attraction.
For the first time on American television, Ryan Smith reports from the African savanna, and Deborah Roberts reports from the US, giving viewers a complete picture of the controversy that has sparked criminal charges, protests, and a worldwide debate about the ethics of trophy hunting.
The hunter, Dr. Walter Palmer of Minnesota, is now the hunted - in hiding since returning from Africa. The hour also includes an exclusive interview with a lifelong friend of Dr. Palmer, as well as lion researchers, Hwange park officials, and other hunters who defend their sport.
"The Hunter and the Hunted" airs on "20/20" on FRIDAY, AUGUST 14 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on ABC.
"20/20" is anchored by Elizabeth Vargas and David Muir. David Sloan is senior executive producer.
