NEW YORK, NY, March 13, 2020 - The news-breaking documentary news series AXIOS examines the intersection of COVID-19 and the 2020 election in a new episode airing SUNDAY, MARCH 15 (6:00-6:35 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO. Featuring exclusive documentary-style reporting and interviews with top Washington decisionmakers, this week's episode offers an inside look at how today's political and pandemic-focused stories will shape our world now and into a monumental election year.

AXIOS is also available on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and partners' streaming platforms.

This week's AXIOS episode begins with a visit to a lab in Nepal where a surveillance program to detect animal viruses with pandemic potential is being shut down after being defunded by the Trump administration.

Then, with this week's episode airing just hours before the first debate between former Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders, we hear from the top decisionmaker for the Democratic party, Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez. Axios national political reporter Jonathan Swan talks with Perez to discuss a range of topics, including how COVID-19 will impact the primary and the upcoming Democratic National Convention this July, and whether there is a place in the party for those who oppose abortion.

AXIOS also talks with House Majority Whip and influential Democratic Representative James Clyburn of South Carolina, whose endorsement revitalized former Vice President Joe Biden campaign. Clyburn visits Axios' headquarters to explain his decision to support Biden, what it means, and what he sees as the dynamics in the Republican party.

Finally, Axios White House & politics editor Margaret Talev sits down with former commissioner and chairman of the United States Federal Election Commission, Trevor Potter, to explore how a pandemic could affect the presidential race and the 2020 election.

AXIOS is a co-production of HBO Documentary Films, AXIOS and DCTV; executive produced by Jim VandeHei, Mike Allen, Roy Schwartz & Evan Ryan; directed and produced by Perri Peltz and Matthew O'Neill.
