Stephen's damaged reputation amongst the locals sees him under investigation by the police hierarchy. Ariki tries to support his boss, but recognizes Stephen often plays by his own rules when policing the town. As Ariki is sidelined by Stephen, he draws closer to someone who shares some of his experiences with the supernatural and this opens the way for a secret Stephen has been keeping about the murder victim to finally be exposed.
