NBC Officially Axes 'Boomtown'

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- After weeks of silence, NBC finally confirmed yesterday that it has canceled its sophomore drama "Boomtown." The series had been on broadcast hiatus since its second airing this season.
The news comes as little surprise considering production was shut down on the series shortly after being put on hiatus. Just six episodes of the critically-acclaimed drama had been produced this season, leaving four installments on the shelf. For its brief run this fall, "Boomtown" averaged a 2.6 rating/8 share in adults 18-49 and 7.2 million viewers overall.
NBC had been running various repeats and specials in the show's Friday, 10:00/9:00c slot since October 3, all of which outperformed both of "Boomtown's" airings this season. "Third Watch" took over the period this past Friday where it snagged a time slot winning 10.5 million viewers and a 3.2 rating in adults 18-49.
Graham Yost and Jon Avnet were the executive producers of "Boomtown," which came from NBC Studios and DreamWorks Television.
