FOX Dismisses 'The Jury' to Fridays
By Brian Ford Sullivan (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- FOX is dismissing its new drama "The Jury" as the network is finding itself experiencing some growing pains as it makes the transition to a year-round schedule.

A spokesman confirmed yesterday that FOX will move the series to Fridays at 9:00/8:00c beginning next week, but more significantly the network doesn't plan to order any additional episodes beyond the 10 already produced. Five have aired since the show launched on June 8. The cast has also been released from their contracts in order to find employment elsewhere.

The news more or less spells the end of the drama unless the series suddenly catches fire on Friday nights. FOX had been running encores of the show's regular Tuesday, 9:00/8:00c broadcast in the Friday, 9:00/8:00c slot.

"The Jury's" most recent airing on Tuesday pulled in a 2.4 rating/4 share in households and 1.2 rating in adults 18-49 according to preliminary fast national data. Said numbers gave FOX a fifth place finish in the Tuesday, 9:00/8:00c hour, ahead of UPN's repeat of "America's Next Top Model" (households: 1.5/3, adults 18-49: 0.8) and behind the WB's "Summerland" (households: 2.6/5, adults 18-49: 1.6).

As for "The Jury's" former Tuesday home, FOX plans to run additional repeats of "The Bernie Mac Show" and "Method & Red" on July 6 while the previously announced MLB All-Star Game is scheduled to run on July 13. Then beginning on July 20, repeats of "That '70s Show" and "Quintuplets" will fill the hour at 9:00/8:00c and 9:30/8:30c respectively.

Barry Levinson, Tom Fontana, Jim Finnerty and James Yoshimura are the executive producers of "The Jury," which comes from 20th Century Fox Television.
