This Fall, Vote TRADING SPACES!; TLC Lets Viewers Choose Next Design Star in TRADING SPACES: PICK THE NEXT DESIGNER

Special Two-Part Event Kicks Off Fifth Season of Hit Series

SILVER SPRING, Md., Sept. 21 -- Have you ever watched TRADING SPACES and thought, "I could do that better"? This October, four people will get their shot at doing just that. In TRADING SPACES: PICK THE NEXT DESIGNER, four aspiring designers will go head-to-head to compete for a coveted slot as a regular designer on TLC's popular series, with viewers deciding the winner.

In week one, premiering Saturday, October 9th at 9PM ET/PT, viewers meet the four hopefuls as each designer tackles a room design and budget. But, there's a catch: each will have only 24 hours to completely transform the room. How will they handle the pressure? At the completion of the episode, viewers will vote for their favorite designer by going online to http://www.discovery.com and clicking on TLC.

In week two, premiering Saturday, October 16th at 8PM ET/PT, the votes are in and the winning designer will join the cast on a regular episode of TRADING SPACES.

Who are the candidates who will vie for the hearts and minds of America? The contenders are:

* Eric Kole (Washington, D.C.) -- Born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Kole studied design in college, but never realized his career dreams until two years ago when he and his partner founded D.C.'s popular Vastu, a combination home furnishings, art gallery and design business.

* Jon Laymon (Orlando, FL) -- Professional sculptor, artist and one half of the winning couple of TRADING SPACES: HOME FREE returns for a shot at a regular slot on TRADING SPACES.

* Erin Martin (San Francisco, CA) -- Owner of Martin Design (est. 1997), with private clients scattered throughout the Napa Valley region, Erin describes her style as "consistent, classical and yet absolutely unique."

* Scott Perkins (Atlanta, GA) -- An accomplished art director, set and interior designer who has previously worked for companies including Black Entertainment Television (BET). He is the recipient of several awards, including 21 prestigious BDA awards from Promax/BDA.

TRADING SPACES: PICK THE NEXT DESIGNER kicks off the fifth season of TLC's popular series. This year, there are some new changes to keep our designers and homeowners on their toes. In each new episode, the homeowners won't know which room their neighbors have selected for the redesign. Additionally, one of the potential rooms will have an assigned value greater than the $1,000 typical of a TRADING SPACES room. This mystery room has a potential budget of up to $5,000. Once the room is chosen, designers and neighbors will collaborate to completely transform the homeowners' room. TRADING SPACES' fifth season will premiere Saturday, October 16 at 9PM ET/PT.

TRADING SPACES: PICK THE NEXT DESIGNER is produced by Banyan Productions for TLC; Kathy Davidov is executive producer for TLC; Tom Farrell is executive producer for Banyan. TRADING SPACES: PICK THE NEXT DESIGNER is sponsored in part by The Home Depot, Procter & Gamble, Mastercard and General Motors.
