This Year�s Nominations Reflect Diverse Collaborations and Multifaceted Music Makers

Ray Charles, Green Day, Alicia Keys, Usher and Kanye West Are Nominated for Album of the Year

Kanye West is Nominated for Ten GRAMMY Awards; Alicia Keys and Usher Receive Eight Nominations Each; Ray Charles Posthumously Receives Seven Nominations; Green Day Receives Six Nominations; Norah Jones, Loretta Lynn, Prince and Engineer Al Schmitt Earns Five Nominations Each

Nominations have been announced for THE 47TH ANNUAL GRAMMY� AWARDS with winners of the awards, generally recognized as the most prestigious in the recording field, to be announced during a special to be broadcast live from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, on Sunday, Feb. 13 (8:00-11:30 PM, live ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Diverse collaborations and multifaceted music makers, as well as new artists emerging in rock, country, pop, R&B and rap, are represented in this year�s nominations.

Kanye West earned 10 nominations; Alicia Keys and Usher earned eight nominations each; Ray Charles posthumously received seven nominations; Green Day received six nominations; and Norah Jones, Loretta Lynn, Prince and engineer Al Schmitt earned five nominations each.

Ray Charles & Various Artists, Green Day, Alicia Keys, Usher and Kanye West are nominated for Album of the Year.

Kanye West received two Album of the Year nominations (one as a performer and one as a producer), as well as two nominations for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration (one with Syleena Johnson and one with Twista and Jamie Foxx). He is also nominated for Song of the Year, Best New Artist, Best R&B Solo Performance, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Album. Alicia Keys and Usher received eight nominations each. Keys is nominated for Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Best R&B Song and two nominations in the Best R&B Performance by A Duo or Group with Vocals (with Tony! Toni! Ton� and Usher). Usher is nominated for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, Best R&B Performance By a Duo or Group with Vocals, Best Contemporary R&B Album, Best

Rap/Sung Collaboration, and he received two nominations for Best R&B Song (�Burn� and �My Boo� with Alicia Keyes).

Ray Charles is nominated for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance, Best Gospel Performance and he received two nominations for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals (with Norah Jones and Elton John.) Green Day is nominated for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Rock Performance By a Duo or Group with Vocal, Best Rock Album, Best Short Form Music Video and Best Rock Song.

Norah Jones, Loretta Lynn, Prince and engineer Al Schmitt each received five nominations. Jones is nominated for Record of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Country Collaboration with Vocals (with Dolly Parton). Loretta Lynn is nominated for Best Female Country Vocal Performance, Best Country Collaboration with Vocals, Best Country Song and she received two nominations for Best Country Song (�Portland Oregon� and �Miss Being Mrs.�). Prince is nominated for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance, Best R&B Song and Best R&B Album. Schmitt is nominated for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Surround Sound Album, and he received two nominations for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical (�The Girl in the Other Room� and �Genius Loves Company�).

Other multiple nominees are Gretchen Wilson (four) and Joss Stone (three).

Tyne Daly (�Judging Amy�), together with John Lithgow, Lily Tomlin and Andr� Watts, is nominated for Best Spoken World Album. Other nominees in the category include Bill Clinton and Steve Martin.

Nominations were made through the secret balloting of the voting members of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Inc., also known as the Recording Academy, consisting of musicians, producers and other recording professionals. Grammy Awards will be presented to performing artists, composers, producers and craft persons involved with recordings released during the eligibility year (October 1, 2003 to September 30, 2004).
