NBC Universal Television Studio Scores Record 36 Primetime Emmy Award Nominations for 2004-05

NBC UNIVERSAL TELEVISION STUDIO SCORES RECORD 36 PRIMETIME EMMY AWARD NOMINATIONS FOR 2004-05

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. -- July 14, 2005 -- NBC Universal Television Studio received a record 36 Primetime Emmy Award nominations for 2004-05 today. It was paced by "Will & Grace" -- tied for most overall series nominations and exceeding its own previous high with 15, including Outstanding Comedy Series -- as well as "House" with five nods (including Hugh Laurie for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series) and late-night programs with six nominations.

The studio's previous record was set last year with 34 nominations.

Other studio programs that were honored include "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" with two (including a third shared with in a crossover episode with "Law & Order: Trial by Jury"). In addition, USA's "Monk," SCI FI's "Battlestar Galactica," and NBC's "Revelations," each received two nominations.

Rick Ludwin, Senior Vice President, Late Night and Prime Time Series, NBC Entertainment, who oversees late-night programming for the studio, said: "We're very pleased about Jay Leno's nomination for Outstanding Individual Performance, the three for 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien,' and the two for 'Saturday Night Live,' including the primetime special 'Live from New York; The First 5 Years.' It's terrific that the Academy has again recognized the creative and technical excellence of our late-night team."

In its seventh season, the Emmy-winning "Will & Grace" (Thursdays, 8:30-9 p.m. ET) surpassed its previous record number of 13 Emmy nominations with 15. These include Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy (Eric McCormack), Outstanding Supporting Actor in Comedy Series (Sean Hayes), Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Megan Mullally) -- and four nominations in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series as Victor Garber, Jeff Goldblum, Alec Baldwin and Bobby Cannavale all were honored.

Blythe Danner completed the "Will & Grace" acting haul as she was nominated as Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.

Tony Shalhoub received his third Emmy nomination as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance in the title role as "Monk" (winning in 2003) for his work as a germophobic police detective.

Golden Globe winner Mariska Hargitay was nominated a second time as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her work on NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (Tuesdays, 10-11 p.m. ET). In addition, the series earned two nominations as Angela Lansbury (in a crossover episode with "Law & Order: Trial by Jury") and Amanda Plummer earned nods each as Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series.

In late night, NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" garnered three nominations -- including Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series -- while "Saturday Night Live" added two more. Jay Leno of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" was feted with a nomination for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program.
