"The Daily Show's" Jon Stewart Wins Prestigious TCA Award

Nightly News Satire Anchor Cited For "Individual Achievement in Comedy"

NEW YORK, July 25, 2005 -- Jon Stewart, anchor of COMEDY CENTRAL's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" was honored on Saturday when the Television Critics Association announced winners of the organization's annual TCA Awards. Stewart took home the prize for "Individual Achievement in Comedy," the second time he has been so honored.

Last month the show received a total of four nominations in the TCA categories: "Program of the Year," "Outstanding Achievement in Comedy," "Individual Achievement in Comedy" and "Outstanding Achievement in News and Information," a category in which it won last year in a touch of irony most appropriate to the nature of the self-described purveyor of "fake news," besting such well-respected news programs as "60 Minutes," "Meet the Press" and "Nightline."

This marks the third year in-a-row, TCA has singled out "The Daily Show" for accolades. As noted, in 2004 "The Daily Show" won the TCA Award for "Outstanding Achievement in News and Information," and in 2003 they were honored with two awards, "Outstanding Achievement In Comedy" and "Individual Achievement In Comedy."

The all-comedy network's unique news parody series already has a two prestigious Peabody Awards and five Primetime Emmy Awards, including two Emmys for "Outstanding Variety, Music Or Comedy Series," to its credit.

The TCA Awards honor the finest work of the 2004-2005 season as selected by the Television Critics Association's 200 member critics and journalists. The winners were announced on July 23 in a ceremony hosted by Craig Ferguson at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

"The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" was launched in the summer of 1996. The nightly news satire takes a reality-based look at news, trends, pop culture, current events, politics, sports, entertainment and the media. In each show, Stewart and a team of correspondents, including Stephen Colbert, Rob Corddry, Ed Helms and Samantha Bee, comment on the day's stories employing actual news footage, taped field pieces, in-studio guests and on-the-spot coverage of important news events.
