NEW YORK, February 28, 2006 -- At long last, COMEDY CENTRAL's first animated series, "Dr. Katz Professional Therapist" which featured Dr. Katz treating dozens of the finest comedic minds is coming to DVD. "Dr. Katz" ran for six seasons on COMEDY CENTRAL (1995-1999) and garnered the network Peabody and CableACE Awards and its first Primetime Emmy Award. Released via COMEDY CENTRAL Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment, "Dr. Katz Professional Therapist: Season One" arrives in stores nationwide on Tuesday, May 9 and will also be available at http://shop.comedycentral.com.

"Dr. Katz Professional Therapist: Season One" is a one disc set featuring all six episodes. The release also contains the following: "Shrink Wrapped," an original Squigglevision short; "Short Attention Span Theater" shorts; "The Biography of Mr. Katz," the animated original pitch idea to the network; and audio commentaries from comedians Dave Attell, Ray Romano, H. Jon Benjamin (Dr. Katz's son, Ben), series star and co-creator Jonathan Katz and co-creator Tom Snyder.

Comedians who appeared on the couch in the first season include Dave Attell, Joy Behar, Bill Braudis, Anthony Clark, Dom Irrera, Laura Kightlinger, Andy Kindler, Wendy Liebman, Larry Miller and Ray Romano.

"Dr. Katz" depicts the life of the psychiatrist who is routinely manipulated by everyone his secretary, his twenty-something son who still lives at home and his bizarre patients. The sitcoms regular characters are played by Boston-based actors Will Lebow (Stanley, Dr. Katz's best friend), Laura Silverman (Laura, the receptionist), H. Jon Benjamin (Ben, Dr. Katz's son), and Julianne Shapiro (Julie, the bartender).

The sitcom features two significant production breakthroughs: a computer animation process called "Squigglevision," which involves unique animated line drawings and the use of established stand-up comedians' routines which form the dialogue in Dr. Katz' therapy sessions. The comedy routines for the therapy sessions are recorded first and the storylines are then "retroscripted" from those sessions.
