CBS Extends 'Close to Home', FOX Asks for 'Death,' 'Hour' Scripts

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- CBS is locking up its returning drama "Close to Home" for the rest of the 2006-07 season as the network has committed to a full season of 22 episodes of the series.
"Home," like fellow sophomore series "The Unit" and "The New Adventures of Old Christine," opened the season with a conservative 13 episode commitment.
The back nine order then was widely expect as "Home's" 11.50 million viewer average to date this season makes it Friday's second most-watched program, behind only the recently launched "1 vs. 100" on NBC (12.77 million).
Meanwhile, FOX has quietly asked for three additional scripts from its two comedy newcomers "'Til Death" and "Happy Hour." Said development means that FOX has requested extra scripts from its entire freshman class this season, which also includes dramas "Vanished," "Standoff" and "Justice."
It's understood the additional scripts are designed to give FOX a few extra weeks to make the final decision about each show's fate, the majority of which won't return to its schedule until after the World Series concludes at the end of the month.
