NBC UNIVERSAL DOMESTIC TELEVISION DISTRIBUTION TEAMS UP WITH HEADBLADE FOR NATIONAL TOUR PROMOTING "THE STEVE WILKOS SHOW"
Mens' Grooming Company And Daytime TV Veteran Touring Country In Advance of New Syndicated Talk Show
Tour Includes Charitable Tie-In with The St. Baldrick's Foundation; Helping to Fight Children's Cancer
UNIVERSAL CITY, CA June 25, 2007 NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution is teaming up with HeadBlade, maker of award-winning men's grooming products and nonprofit organization The St. Baldrick's Foundation, for a national tour this summer to promote the upcoming launch of "The Steve Wilkos Show."
Starting in early July, Wilkos will be traversing the country in advance of his new nationally syndicated talk show and looking to help draw attention to the fight against children's cancer with the help of The St. Baldrick's Foundation. "The Steve Wilkos Show and HeadBlade Summer Tour" will stop in many of the nation's top markets along the way, kicking off Monday July 9th in New York City.
In each market, Wilkos will be at the center of a local event with The St. Baldrick's Foundation ("Shaving The Way to Conquer Children's Cancer") and he'll also be making stops at area hospitals to visit with children battling cancer.
"I'm thrilled that we are going out across the country to meet our audience and work with our local station partners in advance of my new show," says Wilkos, whose show debuts nationally Sept. 10. "I'm especially excited that we will be working with HeadBlade and St. Baldrick's to raise awareness and hopefully money to help fight children's cancer."
"Ten years ago I created the HeadBlade razor for headshavers who adapted the look as their chosen lifestyle, much like myself and Steve Wilkos," said Todd Greene, President of HeadBlade, Inc. "Not long after our products hit the market I realized there was a huge psychological impact that this razor had for cancer victims who lost hair from chemo. People were gifting HeadBlade products to friends and family as a show of support. We quickly got involved with charitable events including the local St. Baldrick's organization. This tour is a great way for HeadBlade to team up with Steve Wilkos and his new show, while giving back to a great charity; St.Baldricks."
"The St. Baldrick's Foundation is thrilled to welcome Steve Wilkos and HeadBlade to our community. Kids cannot beat cancer alone - they need someone like Steve who is known for tackling issues which make a lasting difference in people's lives," says Kathleen Ruddy, Executive Director, St. Baldrick's Foundation. "We're so impressed by HeadBlade's commitment to help children realize the potential that comes of living a long and healthy life free of cancer and its side effects. This three-way partnership stands to prove that the fight against childhood cancer is vitally important to everyone not just the families devastated by the disease. Having Steve and HeadBlade on the kids' side will raise public awareness that while today more kids die of cancer than any other disease, that won't be true for long."
NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution's "The Steve Wilkos Show" is currently sold in more than 90% of the U.S. for its fall 2007 debut in national syndication. Wilkos, the highly recognizable former U.S. Marine, Chicago police officer and popular TV veteran, is the host of the new one-hour daily series. With more than 14 years of experience in daytime television on "The Jerry Springer Show," Wilkos is now front-and-center on his own talk show, sticking up for people and doling out his own version of justice.
Drawing on experience from his days in the military and in law enforcement, Wilkos takes the 'protect and serve' approach to his daily show, responding to the problems of his guests as he would respond to a 911 call. During each episode, Wilkos, a father of two, will use his tough love approach with guests, finding the quickest and best resolution possible for issues such as domestic violence, drug abuse, teen pregnancy and gang affiliation. Wilkos brings street credibility to families in crisis that are looking for straight talk and understanding from a no-nonsense host.
About The St. Baldrick's Foundation
More than 160,000 children are diagnosed with cancer worldwide each year, and cancer remains the #1 disease killer of children in the U.S. and Canada. The St. Baldrick's Foundation is out to Conquer Kids' Cancer by raising money for childhood cancer research, at its signature head-shaving events where volunteers, sponsored by family, friends and employers, go bald in solidarity with kids who typically lose their hair during cancer treatment. Proceeds are granted to the world's leading childhood cancer research institutions. Since 2000, more than 43,000 heads have been shorn for St. Baldrick's, raising more than $33 million for life-saving research. St. Baldrick's unites volunteers in one vision to deliver cures for all kids by funding more childhood cancer research than any other charitable organization.
