FOX REALITY CHANNEL WELCOMES BACK THE CONTROVERSIAL ORIGINAL SERIES, "SOLITARY" WITH A BEHIND-THE-SCENES SPECIAL
New Season Begins SATURDAY, August 4 at 11:00 PM ET/8:00 PM PT, With "The Road to Solitary 2.0" Leading Into the Eight Episode Series and Concluding With Reunion Show Where Subjects Meet for the First Time
Los Angeles, CA. (July 16, 2007) Fox Reality Channel, the only all-reality, all-the-time television network, brings back a second season of controversy with "Solitary 2.0.," the first reality show that truly pushes contestants to their psychological and physical limits. Viewers will get an in-depth look at the casting process and the development of twisted new psychological tests and physical challenges with the August 4, special "The Road to Solitary 2.0" at 11:00 PM ET/8:00 PM PT. "Solitary 2.0" premieres on August 11 at 9:00 PM ET/PT, and concludes with one of the most unique reality show reunions ever on October 6, with the "Solitary 2.0" contestants meeting for the first time and comparing experiences from the grueling competition.
No other reality show puts psychological and physical stamina to the test like "Solitary 2.0." The second season elevates the competition and reloads with a series of challenges far more extreme than the first season's. Nine new contestants enter separate isolation pods and must follow the instructions given by "Val," a female computer entity who is their omniscient "friend" and sarcastic taskmaster. While in solitary, the guests never have interaction with each other or any other human being. Val controls all elements of their existence - including sleep, sound, temperature, and light. They're even stripped of their names, which are replaced with numbers. In grueling competitions, and deprived of direct knowledge of the players they are up against, each guest pushes harder and farther than seems humanly possible. And, no one goes home until they themselves quit. There are no councils, no alliances, and no votes. When the experiment ends, the last person standing walks away with bragging rights and a cash prize of $50,000.
The first season of "Solitary," which debuted June 5, 2006 received praise from viewers and critics alike, going on to become one of the ten-most-downloaded series in terms of both season purchases and individual episode purchases during its first week in the iTunes store. As a completely original competition featuring nine intense personal journeys, "Solitary" steps out of the traditional reality show box.
"'Solitary' entered into uncharted territory in the reality world," said David Lyle, President, Fox Reality Channel. "'Solitary 2.0' will push the limits of human tolerance even further and allow our viewers to go along for the ride while, luckily for them, watching comfortably from their homes."
"Solitary 2.0" is executive produced and co-created by Emmy award-winning producer, Andrew Golder ("Identity," "World Series of Blackjack," "Win Ben Stein's Money") and Lincoln Hiatt ("Unan1mous").
ABOUT THE PRODUCERS OF "SOLITARY 2.0"
Andrew Golder and Lincoln Hiatt are co-creators and executive producers of "Solitary 2.0." Their partnership dates back fifteen years to a start as writers on "Let's Make A Deal" for NBC. Golder, an Emmy award winner for "Win Ben Stein's Money," has produced more than a dozen game and variety shows including "Identity," "The Chair" and "You Don't Know Jack." Hiatt was the creator and executive producer of the hit FOX reality series "Unan1mous," and his experience encompasses a long history in both reality television ("The Contender," "The Family") and feature films ("Godzilla," "Independence Day"). "Solitary' itself is the ultimate voyeuristic social experiment and reality game show. Funny and macabre, it reflects the lighter and darker sensibilities of the two men who produce it.
