"SNL" Political Site Offers Relief From Election Fatigue
NEW YORK - May 12, 2008 - NBC Digital Entertainment today announced plans to premiere fan-favorite webisodes in July, vastly increased mobile streaming video offerings, the well-timed "SNL" Political Site and more community based features. The announcements were made by Vivi Zigler, Executive Vice President, NBC Digital Entertainment.
"We've learned a lot in the past few seasons about what the fans enjoy and we are building on that base," said Zigler. "Our experimentation with ground-breaking storytelling, new functionality and platform offerings will really pay off for the fans of our shows in the months and season to come. We are rolling out more original content from the shows they love, more community around those shows and more top of mind content in the case of the 'SNL' political site."
In the second series of "The Office" webisodes, which premieres on NBC.com, Kevin (Brian Baumgartner) pursues a unique solution in an effort to pay back his looming gambling debts. This installment also stars Oscar Nunez, Leslie David Baker and Craig Robinson.
In the first installment of the "Heroes" Webisodes, titled "Manhunt," users will uncover a new villain along with their motive. The fast-paced, twist-filled web series premieres mid-July on NBC.com and sets fans on a path that leads to the explosive premiere of the third season of "Heroes."
NBC.com has more for users on the go. There are over 30 show WAP sites with recaps, bios, photos, quizzes and over 500 short-form streaming clips. Users with iPhones will find a new mobile site devoted to improved functionality and speed that will better synch with the device.
"SNL" and NBC.com have teamed up to give users a break from election fatigue. Fans can watch classic "SNL" political clips, vote for their favorite "SNL" politician and play the "Whack A Politician" game.
Early this summer, "Jay's Garage" is opening its doors with "Your Garage." Users can upload video, photos and specs of their own personal cars and start virtual enthusiast clubs and chat in vehicle themed message boards. Through DriverTV, consumers interested in buying a car can research models using their high definition virtual showroom experiences.
Also launching today is the site for The Mercedes-Benz Summer Concert Series on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on NBC.com. Users will find weekly band videos, interviews and photos. John Melendez will interview both the bands and their fans. On select weeks, fans will also find exclusive second performances by their favorite bands.
