TBS's Top-Rated Family Sitcom THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW To Return for Second Season June 12
Comedian Bill Engvall Stars in Domestic Comedy about a Family Counselor with an Unconventional Family
Nancy Travis and Tim Meadows Co-Star, Along with Jennifer Lawrence, Graham Patrick Martin and Skyler Gisondo
TBS's original family sitcom THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW is back in the house. The top-rated series, which stars Blue Collar Comedy Tour headliner Bill Engvall, is gearing up for its second season launch on Thursday, June 12 at 9 p.m. (ET/PT).
Engvall plays Bill Pearson, a family counselor who can't always figure out his own family. Nancy Travis (Becker, The Jane Austen Book Club) co-stars as his wife, while Tim Meadows (Saturday Night Live, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story) plays his best friend. The series also features the Pearson children, played by Jennifer Lawrence (The Burning Plain), Graham Patrick Martin (The Girl Next Door) and Skyler Gisondo (Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story).
In its first season in 2007, THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW set records as ad-supported cable's #1 original sitcom of all time among adults 25-54. The series is a welcome return to the kind of traditional family comedy that is lacking on television today.
Set in a Denver suburb, Engvall and Travis offer a humorous look at what it takes to be a parent in today's world. They face parenting issues like allowance controversies, driver's licenses and parking tickets, all while trying to keep the spark alive in their marriage and balancing work with family life.
"One of the things I talk about in my act is that, as a parent, all you're basically doing is keeping a lid on things until the kids go to college," Engvall says. "I want my show to be a reflection of real life and the real issues that parents and kids face each day."
Teenage daughter Lauren (Lawrence) is a typical high-school girl who is trying to find her way through classes and dating. Sports fan and video-gamer Trent (Martin) is the middle child. Musically talented neat-freak Bryan (Gisondo) is the resident baby and genius of the family.
Bill works in the same building as his closest friend, Paul Dufrayne (Meadows). Paul is a renowned hair-replacement specialist who is treated like part of the Pearson family. Paul likes to look good and is into the latest technology, but he's unlucky in love.
As a traditional sitcom, THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW has been embraced by viewers. The show's July 2007 debut was watched by more than 4.1 million viewers and landed among ad-supported cable's Top 3 sitcom telecasts of all time among adults 25-54 and households, according to data from Nielsen Media Research. Heading into its second season, the series ranks as ad-supported cable's #1 original sitcom of all time among adults 25-54.
THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW was created by Bill Engvall & Michael Leeson (War of the Roses). Engvall serves as executive producer, along with J.P. Williams (Blue Collar TV), Mark Kunerth (Friends) and director James Widdoes (Two and a Half Men). The series is being produced by TBS with Williams' Parallel Entertainment.
